Holy day question

Hi. Have a quick question. Due to the lack of power from hurricane sandy and a local curfew, i was unable to attend mass for the holy day. Had i realized there was a curfew i would have gone in the morning. Is this a mortal sin? If not, can i receive communion before going to confession? Thanks!

No - this is not a mortal sin, you ran into circumstances beyond your control, and you had all full intention of going to Mass. Just mention it the next time you go to Confession - you will feel better as a result.
