If all saints day falls on a Sunday then dose the Saturday vigil cover the obligation?

All Saints outranks the Sunday, so in a way, there is no Sunday that week. 😁 Please note that there can be instances where a Holy Day and Sunday will overlap and you’ll have two obligations (meaning in that period of time, you need to go to Mass twice) — but this is not one of those cases.

However, if you’re in a location where you are dispensed from the Sunday obligation, you’re also dispensed from the Holy Day.

Sunday IS a Holy Day of Obligation, as are all Sundays of the year.

My diocese, like most in these USA, is dispensed indefinitely from our Mass obligation, so that’s something to keep in mind.

I didn’t know there was areas where you are or not dispensed… i alwas thought Saturday vigil was sufficient for Sunday obligation?

Yes.

CIC (Latin Canon Law)
Canon 1247 On Sundays and other holy days of obligation, the faithful are obliged to participate in the Mass. Moreover, they are to abstain from those works and affairs which hinder the worship to be rendered to God, the joy proper to the LordТs day, or the suitable relaxation of mind and body.

Canon 1248 §1. A person who assists at a Mass celebrated anywhere in a Catholic rite either on the feast day itself or in the evening of the preceding day satisfies the obligation of participating in the Mass.
CCEO (Eastern Canon Law)
Canon 881 - §1. The Christian faithful are bound by the obligation to participate on Sundays and feast days in the Divine Liturgy, or according to the prescriptions or legitimate customs of their own Church sui iuris, in the celebration of the divine praises.
§2. In order for the Christian faithful to fulfill this obligation more easily, the available time runs from the evening of the vigil until the end of the Sunday or feast day.

I think there was some misunderstanding, and my apologies if I wasn’t clear. I never meant to imply Sundays weren’t considered Holy Days, and the dispensation I was referring to has nothing to do with Saturday evening; I was referring to the dispensations currently in place in different parts of the world for COVID.
