Does calling are father holy downgrade his importance him i mean he is so much more than Holy at least i think he is the reason i say this is we call mary Holy but God is more Holy than her

To me Holy doesn’t have various levels. Something is Holy or it isn’t. Calling something else Holy doesn’t detract from anything else. Mary is Holy precisely because God works through her. As someone else said, when the moon reflects the light of the Sun does it detract from the Sun? No, it just let’s people see by the same light the Sun gives off.

God is Holy. Mary is Holy because God is Holy. The bible is Holy because the Word of God (which is God) is in it, making it Holy.

the reason i say this is we call mary Holy but God is more Holy than her
But I doubt any Pope would seek to usurp either definition of holiness. While called the “Holy Father,” he is also called the “Servant of the Servants of God” - a very humble title.

Like Mary and many Saints - and even like Jesus himself - the Pope is both humble and exalted. We refer to him in ways that emphasize both characteristics, because both are equally legitimate and applicable.

It is not the individual pope who is holy - it is the office of Pope, the seat of Peter, which is made holy by the blessing of Jesus Himself!

As for our Heavenly father, He is the source and summit of all holiness. When we refer to something as ‘holy’ we mean that it belongs to Him!

Do you mean, GOD, as in Father GOD, Our Creator, who sent His only begotten Son, Jesus Christ, for humanity’s salvation?

If you are…know He is all that is and the cause of all causes. He is all goodness (knowledge) and there is no one above Him or equal to Him…

Our Father GOD answers our prayers from whomever you have sent your prayers through…it can be Mary, Mother of Jesus, or Our Lord Jesus Christ, even to all the demigods, saints, archangels, holy teachers as men and woman…all our prayers are presented to GOD the Father, for His decision…

I believe this makes Him more holy than anyone…

We’re focused NOT on the pope’s character but on his FUNCTION and POSITION.

Begin with the definition of the word, “holy”:

ho·ly
  1. specially recognized as or declared sacred by religious use or authority; consecrated: holy ground.
  2. dedicated or devoted to the service of God, the church, or religion: a holy man.
  3. saintly; godly; pious; devout: a holy life.
  4. having a spiritually pure quality: a holy love.
  5. entitled to worship or veneration as or as if sacred: a holy relic.
In his capacity as the head of the Catholic Church, the pope easily fits the meaning of the first two definitions. We hope each pope also meets the criteria for definitions three and four.

Is he talking about the pope or about God? I took it to mean that if we call Mary Holy, that using the word for God would not be appropriate?

well i just thought God seems more than Holy like He is Holy +++++++++++++…

You can call both Holy. Calling both Holy doesn’t mean you think the Pope is more Holy than God.

The Bible refers to John the Baptist as a “holy man” (Mark 6:20). It also mentions “holy prophets” (Luke 1:70; Acts 3:21; 2 Peter 3:2), “holy apostles” (Ephesians 3:5) and “holy women” (1 Peter 3:5). Christians in general are called saints or “holy ones” throughout the New Testament.
