The Holy Ghost/Spirit has always been something really, really hard to explain. The best way that I like to describe … the love between the Father and the Son. 👍

Consider inside of your mind. You have an intellect, by which you know things, and you have a will, by which you love things. This threefold aspect of ourself (ourself, our intellect, and our will), is one way in which we are made in the image of God. Here’s how…

The second person on the Trinity is called the Word of God. This Word of God proceeds forth from the intelllect of God. Just as you and I can have a thought that eventually becomes a spoken Word, so too, in some ways, God has an Infinite and perfect thought, so perfect and so complete in Itself that the Word proceeding from God is a Person in and of Itself.

When the Person of God the Father contemplates the Person of the Word; and when the Person of the Word contemplates the Person of God the Father, an Infinite love spirates forth. This infinite Love is so perfect and so complete that It too is a Person. This Person - who is the Love of the Father and Son, is the Holy Ghost.

That is pretty much how St. Augustine explained the Trinity.

I know that traditionalists rather refer to the 3:rd Person of the Most Blessed Trinity as the Holy Ghost, like in German it’s Heiligen Geist, but in the romance laguages it’s the Sancto Spirito. In Latin it’s Spiritus Sanctus.

So Spirit is more more Romance and Ghost is more Anglo-Saxon.

The Holy Spirit is the substantial love between the Father and the Son in the Blessed Trinity. The Holy Spirit is God given to us. The Holy Spirit is the soul of the Church and the innermost of every Christian.

He is the Gift over all gifts.

The holy ghost is the third person in the trinity it is the soul of God. Its symbol is the milk-white dove holding a olive branch! Or a flaming tongue. This heading implies two truths: The Holy Ghost is a Person really distinct as such from the Father and the Son; He is God and consubstantial with the Father and the Son.

The first statement is directly opposed to Monarchianism and to Socinianism; the second to Subordinationism, to the different forms of Arianism, and to Macedonianism in particular. The same arguments drawn from Scripture and Tradition may be used generally to prove either assertion. We will, therefore, bring forward the proofs of the two truths together, but first call particular attention to some passages that demonstrate more explicitly the distinction of personality.

Scripture
In the New Testament the word spirit and, perhaps, even the expression spirit of God signify at times the soul or man himself, inasmuch as he is under the influence of God and aspires to things above; more frequently, especially in St. Paul, they signify God acting in man; but they are used, besides, to designate not only a working of God in general, but a Divine Person, Who is neither the Father nor the Son, Who is named together with the Father, or the Son, or with Both, without the context allowing them to be identified. A few instances are given here. We read in John 14:16-17: “And I will ask the Father, and he shall give you another Paraclete, that he may abide with, you for ever. The spirit of truth, whom the world cannot receive”; and in

John 15:26: “But when the Paraclete cometh, whom I will send you from the Father, the Spirit of truth, who proceedeth from the Father, he shall give testimony of me.” St. Peter addresses his first epistle, 1:1-2, “to the strangers dispersed . . . elect, according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, unto the sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ”. The Spirit of consolation and of truth is also clearly distinguished in John 16:7, 13-15, from the Son, from Whom He receives all He is to teach the Apostles, and from the Father, who has nothing that the Son also does not possess. Both send Him, but He is not separated from Them, for the Father and the Son come with Him when He descends into our souls (John 14:23). 👍

The Holy Spirit is the Third Person of the Trinity, who proceeds from the Father through the Son (and since He proceeds from the Father through the Son, He proceeds from the Father and the Son). He is the Love of God, that is, the love of the Father for the Son, the love of the Son for the Father, and the love of the Father and the Son for all the creations and creatures of God. Since God is love itself, and God is Spirit, and God is holy holy holy (thrice-holy), the third Person is named “Holy Spirit”.

The name “Holy Ghost” is an English mistranslation, just as “Jehovah” is a mistranslation.

**The holy ghost is the third person in the trinity it is the soul of God. **

God isn’t divided into parts. Try again.
