2 and 1/2 years ago our bishop began traveling to each church in the diocese to lead Holy Hour. Last night he came to our church…it was the one of the deepest spiritual moments of my life. I have been having some family struggles. Bishop read from James then went on to speak to us about perseverance. …it was like he was speaking directly to me! It was very moving to say the least.
For some reason I am…star struck, best way to describe it, when I am around our bishop. I had wanted to thank him for coming and let him know how much his words touched me. However, when it became my turn to greet him all I could do was smile lke a school girl and shake his hand lol.
I just wanted to share a bit of this incredible experience and ask…any one else become completely lost for words like I did?

Sounds like you are blessed with a caring, holy, and fatherly bishop!

Thanks for sharing a wonderful story–I pray other bishops will be similarly inspired, and many more parishioners. I have often shared your speechlessness–I think it’s indecision, with so many different things to say but none that seem quite right.

That sounds beautiful. I have also been starstruck by my bishop. Before hand I would think “oh maybe I’ll ask him to bless me” or compliment him in some way like for the sermon or something… BUT then I get to him and just smile and do a little head bow towards the ring, and I walk away quickly. 😛

Thanks for sharing your story. You & your Parish are blessed.

The thing that impressed me about our Bishop when he first came was his simplicity. When he first arrived our parish was having an outdoor Rosary on the front lawn facing a busy highway. The Bishop drove up (he drives himself everywhere) got out of his car and proceeded to lead the Rosary. It started to sprinkle a bit, but he just knelt there and kept right on praying. There was no ceremony whatsoever. Then he had a nice chat with the people and left.

When Francis became Pope, I had to laugh, because our Bishop is a Jesuit and lives a simple lifestyle also. He actually sold the mansion that had been the Bishop’s residence for years and bought a smaller house for the Diocese. He drives a modest car, and spends a great deal of time visiting the parishes. He is very approachable when one meets him also. His actions remind me of Pope Francis.

Pray for our Bishops–they have a difficult job trying to shepherd their flocks. They need a lot of support.

I bet if you sent him a quick note of appreciation, that would mean so much to him. All our bishops need to be encouraged, and we need to let them know when they feed us how much it really helps . 🙂

I was going to ask if it was appropriate to send him an email or letter 🙂 I will do that today.
Our bishop is also very approachable, always has a smile that is contagious. He often makes little jokes as well 🙂 he has this…sense of joy and peace about him that seems to put those around him at ease. Well except for me haha
