I have been hearing about Holy Love Ministries recently through some people from my catholic church. Some of them have actually visited the shrine and are 100% behind the messages.

The diocese of Cleveland, Ohio which provides guidance on this apparition and ministry is issuing a statement of “extreme caution” in regards to it, but there are sometimes 20,000 people there on pilgrimage.

When does the Vatican step in to do a more thorough investigation to either disapprove or approve an apparition like this? I want to believe, but have always looked to the Church to provide the approval before I apply Truth to the apparition. I think it has been going on for at least 8-10 years, if not longer.

I have been there and I have a problem with Holy Love. I live an hour away and yes I have seen the throngs of people there.

In an older thread I mentioned something about a prayer that was being said on a major feastday that came out of something like New Age. Holy Love does pray the rosary and the Divine Mercy Chaplet, but I would be VERY VARY about the priests they bring in there.

The Cleveland Diocese has discouraged any of their priest in attending or participating at Holy Love. Thus, the organization will look for priest who are not associated with the Diocese of Cleveland.
I didn’t mind the traditional prayers but when something suspicious is brought into the mix, then the red flag comes up.

Please read the eariler posts and then come up with a discussion/responce.

A Still Small Voice by Fr. Benedict Groeschel sums up Church wisdom on private revelation, and is a very good guide to judging the validity of these things. Cleveland Diocese spoke against it when it first started happening and has not changed its stance. Stay away, there is nothing of value here. Whatever you are looking for will be found in the Eucharist and the sacraments that flow from it.
 
Hi, I just wanted to comment on the Holy Love Ministry. I have been there twice already and didn’t know it wasn’t approved yet till later on. I have been very skeptical but have had my own experience visiting the shrine. I have become more closer to Jesus and Mary ever since, the pains on my ankles is gone now and haven’t came back ever since I soaked my foot at the lake of tears. I have taken several pictures of the Statues of Jesus and St. Therese shifting positions and her eye color changed. Even St. Padre Pio’s statue was glowing in the picture. During the Feast of Divine Mercy Jesus appeared like a silhouette on some of the pictures I have taken with an outstretched arm after praying to Him that I wanted to see Him too. Now I know we have to watch for the devil deceiving us, but I prayed to Jesus and this is what He left me with. I am probably disobeying Rome for going there and sharing my experience but aren’t we called to be witnesses of Jesus Christ and are obligated to share the Good News? I have great devotion to Our Lady of Fatima, Lourdes and Guadalupe. Even they were not approved before. I think we need to keep an open mind and heart and ask God for discernment. The Vatican should investigate all the miracles that took place and approve or disapprove the site. Many protestants goes there now as well and they learn to trust Mother Mary. I have heard of some evangelicals starting to pray the Holy Rosary. Maybe this is God’s way of bringing people back to the True Church Jesus Christ Founded. Just a thought and speaking my mind.

The Holy Love groups claims that they are ‘ecumenical’ and therefore do not have to obey the bishop of the diocese or submit to him. But in fact the bishop is in charge of ALL catholics in his diocese. The most he can do is issue a warning about this group, because he has no authority over them as they are not an official apostolate or organization within the Church.
The vatican does not step in because it is the local ordinary, the bishop, who is empowered to handle these things in his own diocese.

If your faith isn’t strong enough without apparitions / visions / ecstacies, then it will never be anything more than brittle and weak with them. imho apparitions are all about ‘feeling’ which makes massive room for deception.
Due to my own past experiences with such things (devotions / apparitions / visions) I would say stay away from them even at the smallest indication of danger. You don’t need apparitions etc to have faith or to have God (its stronger, built on a firmer foundation but its more boring 😛 )
 
have no idea why this old thread is being reopened but as a former Cleveland resident, and having dealt with the problems of parishioners sucked into this delusion, I can attest that at least two bishops have formally written to discourage Catholics from giving any attention or support to these people. It has been going on for over 20 years, with no sign of obedience on the part of self-professed Catholics involved in the original claims. the failure to obey the bishop in cases involving alleged apparitions and locutions, and in forming private ministries of any type, is proof positive that these events are not of divine origin.

The Vatican only gets involved provided any apparition passes the first step which is local approval. If the local bishop approves it then it will go to Rome to be considered by the CDF which can take a long time for a decision. If the local bishop disapproves the apparition then that is the decision. It is not approved and therefore will not go to Rome.
