Holy Saturday and Softball

Good morning. I have two daughters (14) and (10) that both play travel softball. We never miss Mass for softball games and we always put God first.

Both of my girls have tournaments scheduled for Holy Saturday at the same park. The tournament is a one day tournament.

My question is: should we not allow them to play in the tournament since it is Holy Saturday? My in-laws and my parents would all be able to come to the park and watch them both play - so this is a convenience factor.

There is nothing in Church teachings that says we can not engage in activities on Holy Saturday and being this is your daughters activity, I think you would be wrong to prevent them from participating.

You do not want to turn them against religion, which if you push this, you will.

Thank you for your response. I agree, and wanted clarification and really wanted to ease my conscience as well.

If it were me, I would go to mass on Holy Thursday, stations on Good Friday then treat Saturday as a day of waiting.

IMO, that would include an activity such as a softball game with relatives in attendance.

I don’t think that’s true Islam is pretty strict and those people haven’t turned even without the Holy Spirit in their lives. Anyway if it was Good Friday I’d say not a good idea, but I don’t see a problem with Holy Saturday either.
 
Let them play.

Forcing them to make a sacrifice that the Church does not require isn’t likely to produce positive fruit.

They worked hard to qualify for the tournament. We are not a Catholic country, so sports schedules are never going to accommodate the Church calendar. And although our LORD spent HSa dead, we are nowhere taught to play dead until the Easter Vigil.
