In my own personal humble opinion I have seriously struggled with this topic for many years now.
One of my close priest friends is personally very devoted. Me? I am very devoted to the Mother of God especially under the titles of Our Lady of Fatima and of Mount Carmel.
My Parish is a ‘Medj’ Parish with the weekly Medj Holy Hours, Medj Masses, Medj vestments and of course multiple ‘pilgrimages’ etc… I am not amused at this blatant unauthorised ‘approval’. I have lost friends over it because I will not row in with their estatic promotional activities.
I see good people swear by it and their experiences there. I remain silent on the whole thing simply because I have no opinion either way.
I visited Medj in 1995 for the first time. I came home very confused and with no definite judgement in my own mind. (I am a scientist by nature and by career)
I was invited to go again in 2002 and again came away again with no sway either way.
I have read tons of material on this topic both balanced and unbalanced and the water is still muddied. Nothing to move me closer towards it or away from it.
Before you ask will why did you go, well St Paul has told us to test everything. I decided to take him up on his word.
Thank God we have the gift of appointed Bishops to exercise their office in matters like this. I can never claim to know more than one of God’s appointed.
Therefore I look to the wisdom of the Church and to the local ordinary of the Diocese of Mostar. I listen to and I accept the Bishops stance.
As long as it remains this way I am happy to demonstrate my obedience. If its ever approved I will be happy to promote it then.
And no I will not be going again.
