Holy Shrines

Hi,

Did you ever visit one or more Holy Shrines?

I did visit the St.Anthony’s Shrine in Padua,Italy.
The shrine/basilica was beautiful and huge and inside it there’s the tomb of the saint and many people prayed before it and in the treasury chapel inside the basilica as well I could see the incorruptible tongue and jaw of the saint,beautiful,and the wooden casket where the body of the saint was laid down and many more relics.Godwilling I’ll visit Padua again next time.

we try to find a shrine on every family vacation (just as we always visit college campuses). Favorites, Cross Village in N Mich., St. Anne de Beaupre in Canada, Our Lady of the Snows, Belleville IL, OL Lebanon in Jackson, OH, visited a beautiful shrine of St Francis in Iowa, can’t remember the town, but we visited Field of Dreams the same day.

Shrine of St. Therese of the Little Flower, I have 2 favorites, the one in my home town, Royal Oak, MI where I was baptized, and the one in San Antonio. I also like the shrines to OL of Lourdes, one in San Antonio, one in Euclid, Ohio.

Our Lady Queen of the Universe (I think that is the name) the new church in Orlando right outside Disney world is definitely worth a trip.

While I was in college, we stumbled across one on the drive from home to school. It’s close enough to be advertised in our churches, but this was my first knowledge of it. It tends to be in need of repair-there is a walkway in front of these nice mosaics that has caution tape all over it because the rails are broken and it is off the ground. The pond is surrounded by faded, weather-beaten silk flowers-some with only the plastic stems remaining. The only sign that it was receiving any care was the recently mown grass. I am sure it was absolutely gorgeous at one time, but now…

I have been to St.Andrew’s crucifixion site in Patras Greece & Mars Hill in Athens. Very moving experiences. But they are not really shrines I guess

My wife and myself visited the Religious Shrines of France, for our 25 wedding anniversary, back in 1998.

Our visit included

Lourdes, the Convent where the incorrupt body of St. Bernadette is.

The basilica of St. Theresa of Lisieux and visited her the home where she grew up as well as the convent she was lived, until her death

The shrine of the Miraculous Medal, in Paris, where St Vincent DePaul and St. Catherine Laboure is.

The Bassilica of the Sacré-Coeur(Sacred Heart) in Paris.

Notre Dame Cathedral.

For anyone considering such a pilgrimage, all I can say is, DO IT!

We’d go back in a heartbeat!
