Our choir sang Pange Lingua during the procession today as the Blessed Sacrament was taken to the altar of repose. After the service, one of our parishioners said that the hymn Pange Lingua should not be sung during Lent. I never heard of this. Would you please opine on this topic. Thank you.

Its supposed to be sung during the procession to the Altar of Repose. Some parishes use wooden clappers during the procession as its being sung. The Roman missal says that the hymn is supposed to be sung, or another Eucharistic chant. Every parish I’ve been to, has always sung that hymn.

Thank you. I have copied pages from the Roman Missal of the Holy Triduum services and it does indeed suggest the singing of Pange Lingua. I didn’t think to check that first.

You can just tell them that Lent is over and we’re now in the liturgical season of **The Triduum. **

People always have to have something negative to say.

It’s sung nearly everywhere on Holy Thursday because that’s the proper place for it.
