Just stop making the liturgy into the image of what YOU want, and keep the focus on Christ’s sacrifice, and what actually happened for real (it was a real live historical event, with real MEN you know) - and all will be well. There is absolutely no valid reason whatsoever to have women up there, with priests washing them - how horrifically inappropriate, and shocking that so many don’t get that.

The parsing and dissection of documents is really totally unnecessary. What happened FOR REAL on Holy Thursday? Christ washed the feet of MEN. Period. So why in the world would we ever do anything differently?

The world has gone crazy with this PC garbage nonsense.

Isn’t it time to give Holy Thursday a rest? If this keeps up, the annual washing-of-feet disagreements will overlap with the annual should-we-observe-Halloween disagreements and possibly even the annual should-Christians-have-Christmas-trees disagreements.

I agree as well. lizaanne, you’re spot on.

For the others: If you’re going to argue that he only washed men’s feet because of reason XYZ, and we should wash women’s feet today, you’re perpetuating the myth that the holy thursday Mass should be an exact replica of the original. If you are going to go down this road, there’s a few other things you’ll need to do as well:
  • Ordain them all those men bishops sometime during the Mass (in fact, all the men present)
  • Follow the other jewish passover rituals to the T, up to the point where jesus departed from them.
  • Celebrate Mass ad orientem
About that last one, it has been shown historically time and time again that jesus and his disciples all sat on the same side of the table, because in jewish custom, it was not allowed to be served food from behind, hence, one side with people, and one side open for the servers to come in and out with food.

Ok…your reply makes no sense when put with Lizannes…cause she that Jesus only washed men’s feet…like Holy Thursday is an exact replica…so I’m REALLY confused by the rest of your answer:shrug:
