Can anyone tell me if they have visited Holy Transfiguration Skete in Michigan?

Do they live a cenobitic lifestyle or a traditional skete lifestyle (idiorythmic)?

How about the Skete of the Holy Cross in Canada?

I believe both of these Sketes are part of the UGCC.

Looking forward to my visit to Holy Resurrection Monastery next week.

Thanks.

Bill

I’ve just spent an hour on their website. Very beautiful indeed! I’d like to pay them a visit myself.

I guess I’ll call the superior and find out what the deal is. It looks like they are living
a cenobitic life but call themselves a Skete, I was just wondering why.

I’m certainly no expert, I just Wikipedia’d them both. I dunno…looks more like a skete to me…

In the Sketes I have visited in Russia, Serbia, Romania and Greece the monks or nuns in a Skete only came together in the church to pray the services on Saturday and Sunday and Feast Days, at other times they prayed privately the Jesus prayer. They only ate together as well when they had services in the church, otherwise they each were resposible for feeding themselves. The monastic in Sketes are also responsible for providing their own support.

Ahh…

You’ve been to a lot of sketes! Are you going to become a monk?
