Hello all. I work in a church rectory/office and people come all the time for Holy Water: it is in the office. Today two women came in and asked me to fill their bottle with Holy Water. When I finished, she asked if I were a deacon or priest so I can bless thier ring. I said no i was not either, she showed me a ring, and it was a superstitious voodo type of ring.
What do they want the Holy Water for? Has anyone had siniliar experiences, etc? Please comment.

Hm, that does sound suspicious. I have heard of occultists and satanists desiring consecrated hosts and going to some pretty extreme measures to obtain them, but I’ve not heard of this with holy water. Still, what good would having a ring of questionable design blessed be? Would that not damage the “badness” of it?

I’ll be interested in hearing some answers to your concerns.

It actually looked like Blue EYE: I have been told that has something to do with the evil eye thing?

Remember that when a Blessed object is sold the blessing does not remain with it. I have read also that when a blessed object and I believe the Host is used for un-holy purposes the blessing is no longer attached and the Real Presence is no longer.

If someone were to leave the church with a Host they leave with the Blessed Sacrament, Christ Himself. They drive home with Christ Present, He remains present in their refrigerator. As they carry the Host off to a ritual they carry Christ. However at the moment they attempt to desecrate the Host all they have is a piece of bread.

The Real Presence does remain! As long as the appearances of bread and wine remain, the consecrated host and the wine are still the Body and Blood of Christ, whether desecrated or not. Desecration in this sense does not mean that it undoes a consecration.

There are also desecrated hosts that have been witnessed by some to bleed.

As a deacon, many times I am asked to bless pieces of jewelry particularly at the time of a baptism. I remind them, I will only bless items that are sacramental in nature, so this ring would not be included. I also remind them I cannot bless wedding rings that are not part of a sacramental marriage in the church. Perhaps, in our human nature, we naturally equate people as abusing our sacramentals, but I think in most cases it poor catechesis and ignorance on the part of the person requesting the blessing.

I found the example to be a bit on the lite side. I would agree that Christ would remain present in a Host stuffed in a shirt. However I still believe that the Real Presence would cease at the moment the Host is to be used for evil purposes. I will have to look and find where I read this.

we had a Catholic priest from South America reminded us that some people practive voodoo right along with going to church.

Yes, I heard that too. I also heard that the voodoo they do is effective … pretty scary if you think about it.

I believe that the practice is called “Santiera” or something pronounced along those lines.

If this were the case, why would Canon Law have 10 canons regarding the proper reservation of the Eucharist? If Christ cannot be desecrated, why is such care to be taken that He is stored in a safe place, and can even be moved from a tabernacle to a more secure location at night? What danger would there be of a host being stolen if Christ ceases to be present the moment some evil is done to it?

I’ve heard that in those countries you could tell who’s in Santeria during feast days like St. Barbara’s, when churches would suddenly be filled with people who don’t show up on regular Sundays, wearing one color to represent their god, who they disguise as that saint.

yeah, santeria is a confused mixture of ancient african religions and roman catholicism. so, it wouldn’t suprise me that ppl practice it right along with going to church. it’s very widely practiced, too, especially in places like new orleans, haiti, etc.

I think that my point is not being understood. I agree that we should do everything humanly possible to protect the Blessed Sacrament. What I’m saying is that if everything we do fails, Christ protects Himself from evil acts. Keep in mind when they wished to stone Him after reading the passage from Isaiah, He disappeared from their midst.

It is highly practiced (many) in the Cuban and especially Dominican culture(From the the Dominican Republic).

Brother Rich,

When the Host is consecrated, it becomes the Body of Christ. He puts Himself into our hands, literally and figuratively. Just as He surrendered Himself to those who would torture and kill Him, it is now possible to dishonor Him by desecrating His Body in the Sacred Host. It is not as in your example where His time had not yet come.

I have never heard that Christ protects imself from evil acts. Why was He beat up, scourged and why was He crucified?

The whole point of the Black Mass is to reproduce our Holy Sacrifice of the Mass…except backwards. It is a scoffing of our Lord Jesus Christ by the satanists themselves. And yes, they do use consecrated hosts that is the very Life for all of us. I will not even describe what they do with the Hose…it is too disgusting. If they thought that Jesus left as soon as the Host would be abused, why would they go through the measure of procuring one? Has anybody thought that is the very reason why satanists want the Host is because it is Our Lord Jesus Christ…body and blood, soul and divinity.

I have never heard of this theory and would like some documentation on this. It goes against our Catholic teaching that the Host at one minute is Jesus and at another, is not…abuse or not.

Blessings,
Shoshana

I’ve heard that churches and altars automatically become deconsecrated when they are desecrated, but I’ve never heard that about the real presence in the consecrated species.
