Holy Water and the Laity

I just got a bottle of Holy Water, with Deacon’s permission to take and fill my bottle; yesterday after seeing Deacon. I’m interested in using the Water as a means to bless/protect my sons, sister and niece from heresy, nightmares, stress and sleepwalking.

My basic question is: What licit and lawful uses can laity have for Holy Water? The next question is: Can I use Holy Water as part of a layperson sealing a room against evil spirits? next question: Can I licitly seal a room with Holy Water without the homeowner’s permission? Can a layman use Holy Water to bless and protect another layperson?

Cool. That’s a pretty simple method. I wasn’t sure if I had to pray any formulae as I threw/sprinkled/placed the Water.
 
@(name removed by moderator) Alright. So, Holy Water is basically a sacramental that laypeople can use and just pray. It doesn’t have to a pre set formula?
 
Alright, cool. My next question is: Can I licitly seal a room in my mother’s house without her permission? My niece just had a terrible nightmare and a bad sleepwalking episode that caused her to lose her faith.
 
I’d be disobeying her and I had asked her and her mother if I could do it and they both said no. OTOH; my intention is to save her soul. @(name removed by moderator)

My main worry is: What if the house is demonically infested/home to ghosts of the dead. I’m thinking this could stir up and tick off the dead and demons.

So, to seal the room:

Do I lay down Holy Water in each corner of the room, on her bed and over her headboard and her window; making the Sign of the Cross; while praying the Saint Michael Prayer and Hail Marys?

Btw: My family’s Lutheran, so they won’t want a priest to come out and bless the house; unless things get really bad. We already have what we think are dead relatives hanging around the house. I don’t think that there are any demons that took up residence in the home.

However: When I get my own place with my sons; I’m having Father come out and bless the home.

@Michael16 You can obtain some Holy water from your Catholic Church, if you don’t know were it is then ask your Priest. You will need take an empty clean bottle/s use. Holy water needs to be blessed by a Catholic Priest (not yourself) as Thomas has stated. Holy water to bless your children as well.

You can also pray or offer a mass for the souls of deceased family members on both sides of your family.

I know you can use it for blessings and you can also drink it (early in the morning before all else, right after waking up) and also offer it to others to drink it.
Keep in a clean space - like close to the home altar to where you pray, or near an icon, Cross etc.
Some people use it to cooking but a priest told us that is an improper use because food also gets washed down the drain and then you send it to an unclean place.
 
Almost every church that I’ve been to has a font with a spigot you can use to refill any bottle.

Catholics do not believe in ghosts. The souls of the dead depart to Heaven, Hell or Purgatory. Dead relatives don’t hang around the house according to the Catholic Faith.
I think you should respect your mother. It is her home.
If you have a genuine concern, speak to your Priest.
Nightmares can mean nothing, they are just scary dreams. Sleep walking is a genuine condition and can be helped medically. It is more common in people with sleep depravation.
 
I’d be wary about having already asked and now going against their wishes. It is your mother after all and you should really obey your mother as part of honouring her and make sure you dont stray into sin yourself, but that is a matter for you to discern and possibly it is best to speak to a priest about that part. Next time don’t ask just do it, like asking people if you can pray for them, why? just do it. Which brings me to my point, dont forget to pray for these family members, prayer, fasting and offering sacrifices on their behalf that they need know nothing about. Oh and have patience with God’s reply, leave the whole situation in his most capable hands and trust in him, ask him to help you decide which sacrifices and fastings he wants from you and when. God bless you whatever you choose.
