Holy water in the home.

I’ve decided it’s time to get a holy water font for the house. Thing is, my priests are very busy and I don’t want to bother them by asking them to bless water. Would it be all right to take some from the font in a church, or is that just not done?

Hi! It could be that you just need to ask where the source for the holy water font is kept. In some churches there is actually a source of blessed water available for parishioners if they want some.

If you know who tops up the fonts you could ask them, a Deacon or Sacristan…in the meantime I don’t actually know any reason why you couldn’t take a wee drop from a font if you have a tiny bottle! Your priests may be busy, but they are there to serve their flock, and what makes your need less important than anyone elses as you are one of their flock? You may need only to ask once, if there is a source of holy water available for collection by parishioners.

There’s usually a dispenser somewhere in every church, normally looks like a metal water dispenser. Ask around if you can’t find it.

It’s nice to bring a nice big jar for it. Some people nail these inky dink little mini fonts to their walls, but frankly the things run out too quickly. Big jar is the way to go.

Use it daily.

I second this. In MOST churches I have been to, it is marked “Holy Water” and is usually somewhere in the back near the exit or confessionals. It is there for your use

I third this one as well but if all else fail it is completely ok to fill a small Holy Water bottle from the Baptismal font in your church.
And you’re right… it is there for us to use and it should be used everyday.

I have holy water everywhere. I go to the travel-size section of Walmart, and pick up 50 cent bottles…fill 4 at a time. I don’t use a font. Had one, it kept evaporating so fast!!! I have a bottle by the front door. I bless everyone leaving.

I give friends a bottle to take home.

I bless cars on all 4 sides, and tires before trips, especially.

I have a bottle in all the cars and truck.

“With the Blood of Christ and this Holy Water, I bless you in the Name of the Father, and of The Son, and of the Holy Spirit. Amen.”

*Like everyone wrote, there should be a source at your Church. Ask. Another Church close-by? I go in at all hours and fill my bottles all the time.

This is what we do. But we did go to the office and ask permission, first. I had to laugh, because for some reason… they felt it necessary to “remind” me NOT to drink it.

Just ask permission at the office. I’m sure it will be fine. And some parishes even keep a little urn in the narthex for parishioners to get holy water. Hope this helps.

I would think priests would be more than happy to bless water for you. I needed a large amount of water blessed so I took some to a priest. I was afraid he might be too busy to be bothered but it was no problem for him. He even asked me if I had blessed salt, blessed oil, or Epiphany Water and I told him i didn’t. He proceeded to gather and bless all these sacramentals for me. I was very moved by his generosity. Just thought I would share that little story. God bless!
