Holy Water in wine at home?

My wife and I enjoy a glass or two of wine daily. Today I had two glasses while meditating and reading the scriptures. I took my holy water and placed a drop in each glass in a way to bless the wine. Is this a good practice or is there something wrong with this?

Nice thought, but how old was the holy water? Do you have any idea how many bacteria and microbes are in a single drop of water that’s been sitting around?

The alcohol in the wine might have killed some - hopefully all! It sure wouldn’t be a risk I’d be willing to take.

Do you receive the Holy Blood at Communion?

I normally receive under both species. Not the same thing as drinking old water. We’ve been repeatedly advised against even rinsing and reusing disposable water bottles (dasani, etc.) because it’s impossible to sterilize them. Unless the priest is willing to bless water you’ve purchased in an airtight bottle, and you drink it within 12 hours of opening it, it is not a good idea to ingest holy water.

The Holy water font at our church says “do not drink”.
in addition i know the Holy water bottles in my home are quite old and i couldnt always know if they were cleaned properly…

is it “sinful” or wrong to put Holy water in your food/drink? not always…i would say that it depends on why you are doing so.
if it is to bless yourself generally. or to remind yourself of sacred things… fine

if you are somehow of the opinion that you are making this wine the same as communion. well… uh… highly sinful, thanks. (no i dont think you are, i was making an example)

I don’t know that a drop of holy water in your wine is going to make the wine any different. I think I’d be more likely to bless myself with the holy water before Bible study and drink the wine straight!

On the topic of cleaning your holy water bottles, I use salt to help scrub out the ‘slime’ that forms at the bottom of the plastic bottle. My neck on my bottle is small so I can’t reach in to clean it. Regular salt is abrasive enough to ‘scrape’ out the bottom and sides and if I can’t rinse it all out, I don’t worry about having soap in my holy water. The salt also acts as a preservative to help the water stay clear longer.
