Quick question: Is it alright to put Holy water in a bowl (clean, bought specifically for the purpose) when you are in a place that has no font?

We’re going on holiday and I use holy water within prayer, so is it ok to put it in a bowl by my bedside?
 
There should be no trouble using a clean bowl respectfully as a holy water font. It’s not the chalice that holds the Precious Blood we’re speaking of here.

In fact, when the priest washs his fingers diring the Lavabo, the holy water is caught in a bowl, no?

You should be just fine.
 
Any vessel may be used. Just remember that holy water is a sacramental, so use it respectfully. Remember that a holy water font is just a vessel sometimes with an attached statue and does not gain any further significance until it is blest or is used with holy water.
 
Thank you. I wasn’t planning on using the dog bowl or anything, I’m going to buy a small plain bowl specifically for holding the holy water.

We have a font at home but I can’t see the owners of the house we’re renting being happy with us nailing a font to their wall 😛
 
You can also place Holy Water in a small, plastic bottle. This is handy for sprinkling the water. I saw our priest do this, when he came over and blessed our home. These little bottles are available at The Leaflet Missal Company. (link below). God bless.

Holy water is not used at the Lavabo–or ablutions, for that matter. Just ordinary water from the cruet.

what is a font except a bowl of holy water?
 
We bring Holy Water into our CCD class for the children to bless themselves. I carry the water in a clean plastic bottle and use a small ordinary bowl to pour a bit out. The kids then dip their fingers just like you would from a regular font. After class I carefully pour any remaining water back into the bottle. Because I’m not sure how clean the children’s hands are, I do put a bit of salt into the bottle and don’t fill it up too full. That way the water doesn’t get cloudy or gunky. I also use a different bottle to bring water home for our family use.
