I have some holy water that is several years old. Is it no good or does it lose its’ power after so long? How exactly do they make that? Isn’t there salt in it. That will purify and drive off spiritual things in itself. Not to mention parasites in meat and blood from meat and such. It purifies.

As long as the Holy Water has not evaporated, it’s still good. 🙂

No, it has no salt. Blessed Salt is a different sacramental. Holy Water is powerful in that it contains the prayers of the Church, so to speak.

There is a rite of blessing for both substances. I’m sure someone can post it.

Exorcised salt is added as part of the Rituale according to the 1962 liturgical books. It is optional, with the reformed books, as I understand it.

Thanks for this info - I have some Holy Water from Lourdes which my MIL gave me on my Confirmation this year. It must be many years old, as it’s a long time since she went there. I will keep it safe.

I am in possession of some holy water that was used in my nephew’s baptism, eight years ago.

Holy water is not certified for ingestion or use on food of any kind.

I also had some Easter holy water that also stood around for a couple of years.

I don’t think I should have had these in the first place, because I did not have the intention of using it promptly.

As I did with some of this water, I poured it into a dish to evaporate at its own rate to the point of dryness. That does not involve any sort of disrespect – e.g. not into the toilet.

If its still there its still Holy Water.

By the way you can fill a bottle with tap water and take it to the priest to be blessed. It is then Holy Water.
