I have recently run out of the little bit of Holy Water I was given at my confirmation. How would I go about getting more? Would it be ok to fill my small bottle from the fonts at church?

Thanks,

Jon

Fine to do so.

If you have a good look around your church, though, there’s usually some sort of urn or tank-type contraption labelled ‘holy water’, which is generally easier to use for refills :signofcross:

A lot of church’s have holy water stored in a special font, with a spigot that you can turn to pour out the holy water. It’s kind of like a stainless steel cooler. I’ll try to find a photo of one to show you. I’ll be back.

You can also fill the bottle and ask your priest to Bless it for you.

I looked in some church supply sites, but I couldn’t find a picture of one. Just take your bottle to church and ask where you can get a refill. Or, as Bro. Rich suggested, bring your own water and ask to have it blessed.

My pastor told me it was okay to take the water from the Baptismal font.

if you fill your own bottle drop a pinch of ordinary salt (sea salt is best) in the bottle first, it prevents the green slime from growing in tap water. do the same thing if you have a holy water basin by the door at home, especially in the summer.

This of course is assuming your Church hasn’t emptied all the holy water fonts to enhance the Lenten experience.

Problem solved- I asked the Sacristan and he told me to take from the fonts.

Is there anything written about the theology of Grace with regards to the blessing of objects (holy water / candles rosaries / crucifixes etc…)

What exactly is a blessed object?

When water is blessed by a priest it becomes holy water

What exactly does this mean.

Is the water changed? Presumably it is - but I just wonder if there is any specific teaching on this whole area the nature of sacramentals
