I suddenly realized I COMPLETELY forgot about the no meat rule!

:doh2:

I think my real job here is to make you guys look better by comparison. 😃

It does make you applaud the mental discipline of the people who manage(d) to do this all during Lent… I’m feeling it and it’s only my second day. What grace and fortitude required for this kind of fast!

Well I drink lattes morning noon and night. My priest
suggested that through lent I drink only morning coffee
and donate afternoon and evening cups of money saved
to charity. Accountability? I’m napping an awful lot…lol.
Another suggestion is to swap green tea for coffee…green tea does have a lot of caffeine but not the satisfaction of the latte or coffee, at least for a coffee lover like me.

Another suggestion is coffee black, no cream, no sugar, no latte. Unless that is the way you normally enjoy it.

Peace to all

I’ve switched to black coffee (or, when possible, espresso) from my usual latte so I wouldn’t get the consolation of the milk. That and water has been keeping me going.

I am not sure if I am getting this. I get that not to eat meat, but how much food can I eat and what times can I eat. What times can I not?

The idea is that you do not eat when the sun is up. And then I’ve been planning on just having a bit less food at ā€œdinnerā€ than I normally do.

Hi acaia12,

None of this is required by the Church, so it’s more what you want to do (if anything). We thought it would be a good idea to try out this particular penance, which goes roughly like this:
  1. No meat.
  2. No food until sundown.
We made an exception for coffee =)

Also, we added fasting until noon as a backup if you can’t make it all the way to sundown.

Good point, in BOLD above for those coming late to the thread. šŸ‘

Thanks :thumbsup:I have checked and it says sundown is 7:57pm here. So that means not eat until that time? I haven’t ate all day yet because I wasn’t too sure. I did wait til noon Sunday and yesterday though.

I do have to confess to having a candy bar at 2pm my time… I had to clear my head because my homework and fasting aren’t mixing as well as I might have hoped.

That’s the goal, no eating til sundown. šŸ™‚

Unfortunately I can’t join you but well done for all your efforts and I will pray for you.

Just realized that, because I’m attending the Vigil (wife’s being received into the Church), I won’t be able to eat until after Mass Saturday night. Hmmmm… That will be a crowning fast to this week.

I plan on not eating anything on Good Friday. So Holy Saturday will be my ā€œrecoveryā€ day. šŸ™‚

It is difficult, but I am still here! I am use to not having meat on Fridays all year round, but having no meat for a week has made me rethink what to eat. It’s a good challenge having to be more creative food wise. šŸ™‚

Yesterday, I made it a little past noon, today I’m going to try and go for a little longer. Even making it to 3 has been pretty difficult for me.

This has been an eye opening experience. I really need to work on penance more, and fasting is particular. I think after Easter, I’ll continue to try penances to help get better at it.

My attempt to not eat anything all day is going well so far. Although it is still the morning so pretty early.

The other idea I had was to not drink coffee. So far, this has just ended in me nodding off at work, so I might decide to have some to stay awake more.

I’m thinking next year we should do all of passiontide.

That’s not a bad idea. This thread has been very eye opening for me. I think I need to work on doing better penances. I may start doing them more regularly to get better at it.

Thanks for starting the thread!
