Holy Week - Which Mass(es) do you attend?

I would love to make it to Easter Vigil–I haven’t done that since '98 (when I officially became Catholic), but would really need a sitter for my younger three children, as that Mass is just too much (it wasn’t for my oldest back in '98 when he was 4-1/2, but then he’s also the one who’s shown repeated signs that point to a possible priestly vocation) for them. My husband, however, will be at the Easter Vigil, as he is sponsoring his seventh person into the Catholic Church this year, and my oldest son will be serving that Mass.

I’m hoping we can make it to Good Friday this year–my husband is working today and hopes to be available to help with the younger children (well, I’ll be honest–it’s my youngest son who’s the difficult one, but I don’t feel comfortable leaving his twin sister & my middle son who’s not yet 7 alone in the pew if I have to take youngest son out). Oldest son and I did go last night.

They’re having something special planned for the kids at the 6:30am Mass, but I don’t think I’m going to be able to get everyone up and out the door for that–especially since husband and oldest son are likely to be still pretty wiped from the Vigil Mass (our usual Mass is the 9am).
 
My highlight this year was the preaching of the Seven Last Words by Fr. Rutler, followed by the Good Friday services. A long day, but if He could be on the cross three hours, i guess I can sit a few hours in a pew hearing about it.
 
Notes from the Twilight Zone:

Holy Thursday-No Mass-Novus Ordo only option-Tridentine too far away-would require return at 1:00A.M.

Good Friday-spent most of the day in Tridentine Church-4 hour service including stations-very solemn and very inspirational-bought religious books and statues.

Holy Saturday-Tenebrae in Novus Ordo seminary-I know these young men and they are quite traditional although they must be obedient-since I attended Trrdentine Tenebrae last year will be able to compare.

Easter Vigil-Impossible to attend-too far away-tried several years ago and found out why midnight to 8:00A.M. hours are most dangerous hours to be on the road-too many agents of the devil driving around.

Easter Sunday-will probably attend last Mass to avoid traffic in both directions.

Solution appears to be to move closer to Tridentine Mass site-I have already begun to look at houses. Since I was born, raised, educated, and married in the Tridentine Rite, I find it almost impossible to come to grips with the Novus Ordo rite.
 
I usually go to everything but tenebrae, and Easter Vigil. I have always worked early and can never stay up. This year I did make it to E.V. For two reasons-I was confirmed, and I am the new, unofficial/haven’t been hired ***yet ***sacristan of the cathedral (pray for me!). For that reason I did not make it to Easter Sunday Mass.

Well, we did manage to get to the 6:30am Mass this morning!

In the end, this is the way things broke down for us:

Thursday: Oldest son (serving at the altar) and I went

Friday: Oldest son served at altar, all but my husband were there.

Saturday: Oldest son served at altar, husband went as confirmation sponsor (7th time he’s sponsored someone)

Sunday: We made it to 6:30am Mass. Oldest son served at the altar again. Middle son had a bout of shyness and didn’t participate in the procession (not completely surprised there).
 
Normally I would attend Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter Vigil but this year I was sick and missed Good Friday. I love all 3 of these masses. At the church I started attending about a year ago (St. Patricks Rutland MA) both masses were beautiful and really helped renew my faith. To me there is nothing more moving than the Pange Lingua and the procession to the altar of repose, being brought as though present in the Garden of Gesthemane to watch with our Lord on His last night. Then Good Friday and the passion reading. It seems that Easter is not meaningful without the other 2.
 
I lectored at each and my daughter served at them all as well. We also attended stations of the Cross on Friday evening.

I ended up going to everything but the Easter Vigil. I was really excited, because I had planned on going to the Vigil, too. Then we had to clean our old house (my parent’s choice, not mine!) for the renters who were moving in right after Easter. I actually was crying :o because I couldn’t go to the Vigil Mass, as well.
