Well we went to mass last night “thursday” for the mass of the last supper. Confession and communion. And this was at the parish I belonged to my entire life at St Michaels. Very old and just a beautiful church. many very large statues of Christ, Virgin Mother Mary, St Michael etc and many murals which are copys of the Vatican. Cathedral ceilings and a overall feeling of a time long past. BTW I like older homes anyway, and live in a very old historic area where many of the homes are Historic and from the 16 and 1700’s.

Today the kids are doing the easter egg coloring. Its early here so my wife actually just finished boiling the eggs. And we talked about having the kids become accustomed to the proper diet " not eating meat on Good Friday". I still continue to do this on Weds and Fridays from my youth throughout the year. We grew up this way so I have continued. The kids are getting off track a bit. And definatly do not have the appetite for fish etc, I have.

But its ironic you mentioned the Egg and what its symbolizes. We had that exact conversation last night.

Tommorrow I want to go to the Vigil at Holy Rosary here. Its actually a stones throw from my home. And while my parish is very old and I love it. Holy Rosary here is very modern and a bit different, I suppose would be the best way to explain.

For example after recieveing the body of christ during communion, they offer you the Blood of Christ in a chalice with wine here. So what I’m saying is the mass differs a bit as does the church from my parish. Which makes things interesting.

Sunday we are going to have a Spiral Ham dinner and have everyone over. And I’m looking foward to it. 🙂

I hope you have a great dinner & good company to eat with you. I’ve finished the first leg of the triduum. Three of my children & 5 grandchildren have been here since about 11 am. We’ve had our meatless meals…& I was amazed at how the kids like fish. We all attended the Stations of the cross & Benediction. 3 of my Grandchildren go to a completely modernized Church. It was built for Mass in the round, has not one statue, a grotesque looking modern representation of a crucifix & lots of felt hangings. It has no kneelers & a huge screen to the left in back of the “Mass table” so that the words of the hymns can be broadcast on it. These three are always awe-struck when they enter our old-fashioned Church with it’s wood hewn pews & kneelers, polished by generations of hands & knees, our statues of Our Lady & St. Joseph with the predieuxs & candles in front of them, the high altar with it’s beautiful Tabernacle. And they loved the Stabat Mater.

Two of my daughters-in-law sing at their own parishes, so need to be back home (a 4 hour drive) for Easter Mass. That meams a big dinner tomorrow, since the out-of-towners will be leaving tomorrow evening.

Holy Sat. has, for me, been a day of expectation.

"Today a great silence reigns on earth, a great silence and a great stillness. A great silence because the King is asleep. The earth trembled and is still because God has fallen asleep in the flesh and he has raised up all who have slept ever since the world began… …He has gone to search for Adam, our first father, as for a lost sheep. Greatly desiring to visit those who live in darkness and in the shadow of death, he has gone to free from sorrow Adam in his bonds and Eve, captive with him – He who is both their God and the son of Eve… “I am your God, who for your sake have become your son… …I order you, O sleeper, to awake. I did not create you to be a prisoner in hell. Rise from the dead, for I am the life of the dead.” [Ancient Homily for Holy Saturday]

PS. My brother remains about the same. He is on a breathing machine & receiving dialysis. Thanks for all of your prayers for him.
