Praised be Jesus Christ!

Does anyone know if a priest would come and say Mass at a home? On a home altar? In a non-emergency??

If you were really good friends with him maybe.

My great-aunt used to teach CCD to children at her house, and sometimes a priest would come and say mass on the dining room table.

Well my seminarian friend said mass in our hotel room on vacation with permision from the bishop. It was really great… so if you can find someone to do it then there really would be no problem. He’s in charge though…so don’t expect be able to keep anything used for the consecration. I’ve seen some pretty interesting things. Not something I would suggest but sure…if you can find someone to do it for you then go for it.

You ought to invite a priest to bless your home at least.

Wow this thread is resurfacing again. My mom and me are going to get started on a family altar and I’m working on mine to get it a little more organized so I will definately post some pics when we get done. We also want to get started on a Mary Garden in the backyard.
Mine is still in the planning stage. Heavy rainfall this spring & now temps close to 100 degrees have slowed me down so much that I’m waiting until next spring. 😦 (or when I finally retire & stay retired…whichever comes first). Good luck with yours & keep me posted.

I’ll get some pics sometime this coming week! I always rearange and I just went to EWTN so I got all kind of stuff. 😛
I love your blog. You teenagers are truly giving me hope that this 66 year old Catholic Grandmother will see a return of reverence & Catholic culture before I die. Thank you so much!!!

(I’m pretty healthy so you’ve got plenty of time. 😉

Yeah we’ve started preparing the ground a bit, but as its really quite hot out (between 105-110) and you can’t always predict the monsoon, we are holding off planting anything. Which gives us time to figure out what to plant and to find a nice statue of Our Lady. I’m thinking Our Lady of Knock, or maybe Our Lady of Fatima.

Thanks for the great thread. I’ve been trying to get a home shrine set up for a while and I think it’s finally come together.

(Please Note: This uploaded content is no longer available.)

I live in a bachelor suite, but it’s in a very visible part of the room, you can’t miss it.

Love it! I’ve been trying so hard to find six brass candlesticks-nobody likes them anymore! If you can find them, they’re all different heighths. I managed to find 4 at the local St Vincent De Paul thrift store…but meh.

I know, I was having a really hard time - for months, actually - trying to find enough candlesticks of a suitable size and style; my table isn’t that big.

Believe it or not, I was in a dollar store last weekend and my eyes popped out because they had at least a couple dozen of these candlesticks on the shelf. Needless to say I didn’t think very long on whether I was going to buy them or not. I would have been happy to find 4; that I could get the whole complement was a real bonus. And I’m thrilled I didn’t have to pay very much for them, under $20 for the whole lot.

I actually have some before and after pictures of the altar I have at my parent’s house (where I say Mass on my days off)… This one was taken before September 14, 2007. Tomorrow, I’ll try to upload pictures of the post-September 14, 2007 altar. (I’m sure you can all guess at what the difference is…)

My dad built the altar (mensa), and I have an altar stone in the center.

God bless,

Fr. Boyd
Are you a Carmelite priest.

I just found this thread and it’s very interesting. I love all the pictures. Does any body keep their candles lit perpetually? I keep mine going 24/7 but I know many folks don’t for safety reasons.

YEAA!!! :extrahappy:
I think this is like…what guys…the third time we pulled this thread back out of the closet?
i LOVE this thread!!!
I encourage all newcommers to post pics and stuff about their “home alter”!!!

Let me tell you, mine has evolved so much since that first picture!! I’ll have to get another pic!

Are you a Carmelite priest.
I’m a Third Order (Secular) Discalced Carmelite (O.C.D.S.) and a diocesan priest, which is different than being a Carmelite priest who is a member of the First Order.

I could tell by the statues in your home altar. Very beautiful by the way!. 🙂

Are the Carmelites, in general, very receptive to the EF Mass and the older Roman calendar. I see the Dominicans are.

I have a shrine, it currently has a Face of Christ Crowned With Thorns above the table draped in dark-gold fabric, ontop of which is a white linen cloth. It’s surrounded by four candlesticks, and a Bible under it, and a white-linen covered box with holy water, holy oil, holy earth from Jeusalem, holy water from the Jordan, an old Cross, and an old little Greek Bible in it. I usually have a censer, but ran out of incense (I never use stick incense-- only traditional monastery-quality incense used in churches.) Oh, yeah, and above the Face of Christ is an old metal (pre-Vatican II?) crucifix that was on someone’s casket at a funeral-- got it on E-bay, as the person didn’t want it (don’t know why anyone would not want a crucifix).

My shrine changes from month to month, to reflect the Christian seasons, and I have many other pictures and items which I interchange during the various holidays. All the images I use are of the same Pre-Vatican II German Catholic style. Even my non-Catholic friends think it’s cool (except when, in the Marian holidays there is a predominant Marian theme in the shrine! )

Anyway, I want to post photos, but it’s so confusing and hard. What’s an URL? Can’t I just add it from my computer?

A URL is the text you put in the bar to go to a website; the URL for google is www.google.com. The URL for this site is forums.catholic-questions.org.

To upload them from your computer, alas, I think you must first put them on a site like photobucket.com. You upload them to there, and then they are arranged in an album. In the album, they are given a URL which is like Photobucket, so you copy it in the space provided when you click ‘insert picture’ on the ‘reply to thread’ screen.

wow looking good. I remember the day this thread was started.

God Bless.
