SacredHeartFan: Yes! That’s a First Class Relic in front of the statue of St. Anne and Our Lady. It is a bone fragment of Blessed Bartolo Longo. Also, all of the Holy Cards on display are Second or Third Class Relics of my favorite Saints. I have added a lot to my altar since that picture was taken. Here is what it currently looks like:

Hope you like it!
I like that statue of I’m guessing the Sacred Heart?

We are in the process of moving right now, but I’ll have to get a new pic soon! For Christmas I recieved two 17in statues of the sacred and immaculate heart as well as a small picture of the Divine Mercy. I also recieved a statue of my patron Bl Fr Seelos. I also have a trinty statue and a Holy Family statue 🙂 From the humble boy who started this thread, its funny to see the evolution of my shrine for me 🙂 Ever since people have heard that I started one, they have been gifting me with items for it 🙂

That statue of the Sacred Heart is my newest addition. Funny story how I acquired it…I went to a religious shop looking for a reliquary and walked out with it. It was originally $80 but marked half off because the hand had been broken off and been reattached. Its a beautiful statue from Spain. I love it. I can’t wait to see the new pictures of your altar. 😃
I want to thank you personally for starting this thread. You gave me the idea and inspiration to make my altar and I love it. So thank you. 🙂

Which of the three statues of Bl Seelos did you buy?

Although your Altar is set up with reverence. I would ask you to seek the advice of someone Ordained. As I have always had the understanding that an “Altar” is a place of sacrafice. As in Christ’s passion, the body and blood of Christ are ‘our’ sacrafice we offer to God in remembrance for what his son gave to all humanity.
Could only be a word change but it could also be correct. Look into it I urge you.

We have talked about this in earlier posts. We do realize that these are home “shrines” and not altars. Altar is just the pious thought that came to mind a few years back when we started this thread. I did not know as much about the faith as I do now. The term “altar” though can be applied here. It is a pious sentiment given to the places we have set up in our homes to pray. Pope John Paul II was very fond of promoting “home altars” for the family to pray at and read scripture together. 👍

The bottom two shelves were set up to be kid friendly. This is where we say our prayers as a family and individually. It also is the first thing anyone who comes in our front door sees so there is no doubt as to who the head of our house is.

I REALLY love this thread, thanks so much
for sharing the pictures and the links.

I am currently setting mine up but got lots of new ideas tonight.

Right now, I have 2 small standing crosses
(one on my desk so I can look at it most of the time.)

The other one is a Lent one with the cross, a purple “cloth” and a
crown of thorns. Since I am a penitent, I will use it all the time.

1 small picture of my patron saint (downloaded from the Internet and then framed.)
Also a framed picture of the Sacred Heart.

I have a Lent cross … lies flat, with 6 candles and a bottle of holy water.

At this point, I have all my prayer books, spiritual reading,
Christian prayer and Bible on the table on the other side of my chair.

A large white “stained glass” cross next to my desk on the wall.

This room is basically mine and someday,
hope to have a wonderful home shrine/altar “room”

Several candles of different sizes.

Thanks to all who have shared. I loved finding this tonight.

Sacredheartfan I think your altar looks just perfect. Beautiful and very peaceful looking, perfect for prayer.

The cross is lovely as are the statues, and the rose bowl, wow, stunning 🙂

I have recently returned to the Catholic Religion, and I hope that I am as passionate about it as you are, sooner rather than later 😉

I love this thread!!! I can’t believe it has been going so long. I think everyone’s prayer places are wonderful!

We’ve got votive holders that are triangular for the trinity, a Catholic Bible and a Belleek High Cross because my fiance is Irish.

I don’t have a Altar Per se, but I do have a desk, which I use both for Work, and Prayer.
I don’t have a lot of space in my room, so I have to make do.
I have a Small Crucifix, a Small Olive wood Greek Cross. A Small Tryptic Icon of the The Virgin and Child, and The Archangels Michael and Raphael.
And a Tiny Pewter statue of the Infant of Prague.
I keep my Religious books mostly under my night stand, but I do have a Bible mixed in with the other books on my shelf. I’ll get a picture later.

I also have a censer, that is never used.
  1. Because it’ll give my Step-Dad an Asthma-Attack
  2. I’m the only religious one, ergo nobody likes it but me…
I also got a Orthodox Crucifix Icon today,
It’s in the shape of a cross, with the Christ Crucified on a Three Barred Patriarchal Crucifix, with God the Father, and the Holy Spirit Dove above Christ, and the Virgin Mary to the Left and St. Joseph to his Right. Under him, it seems to be under the ground, there is a Skull, I suppose that represents satan was crushed under Christ’s sacrifice or something similar.

Also no Candles. 😦

I have a bottle of holy water, but I need a small bowel. However, I’m afraid my cat will drink it. 🤷

I’ve looked at most if not all (it was a while ago while I was lurking so I don’t quite remember lol) at the pages on this thread and there are some beautiful shrines/prayer areas! In fact this thread inspired me to make my own prayer corner and it has helped so much in helping me to focus when I’m praying or reading the bible. I’ll post some pictures later.

I apologize for the un-ironed tablecloth. It’s actually a pillowcase that I found was the perfect size and used it straight out of the package and I keep forgetting to iron it out!

For now I have a little folding table and a homemade book holder for when I read my bible as the table is too low. Eventually I’d like to find (or make) a table tall enough for me to use comfortably when I’m sitting and when I’m kneeling to use for support.
