I just set one up recently. As soon as I get home I’ll take some pics and upload them 👍

My Prayer Space is not as elaborate as others on here but it suits me just fine 🙂

Sorry I found this thread so late in the game, but I just love home altars I have two, sorta…one on my dresser, where I can kneel to say the rosary and such, and one in a shelf compartment, where I have my statues, etc. That one is more decorative. Both have candles and various holy cards. I’d like some more icons for Christmas, but as you can see, I’m literally running out of space to put any new things. 😃
I’ll post some pics once I upload them.

Grrr…the computer isn’t letting me upload my pics. There’s an “error” whenever I try and the upload fails. Any idea what to do?
Anyway, my first shrine/home altar is in a shelf. I’ve added to it as time goes on. In it, I put a wooden jewelry box with a pretty ceramic top, and on top of that I have a statue of Jesus (probably 9") and a smaller one of Our Lady holding the Child Jesus, which I got about 10 years ago in first grade at Catholic school. (Whoa, who knew it was that long ago?) I also have an icon of Our Lady of Kazan, two glass rosaries (one from Rome, one from good ol’ EWTN, a bunch of dried flower petals, and a glass cross. That’s just on top of the jewelry box. 😃 To the sides, I have a statue of St. Francis, two of angels (one with only 1 wing, unfortunately, but you can’t really tell) with medals wrapped around their shoulders, and holy cards I made with pictures of St. Maria Goretti, St. Theresa, St. Joseph and the Child Jesus, BVM, and the adult Jesus. More dried flowers around them.
The second one is less of a mishmash. On the wall behind it, there are icons glued, and on the surface itself I have paper icons of St. Veronica, BVM, the Holy Father, and verious others. There are a bunch of candles and holy cards to the left and right sides. More dried flowers and leaves, plus my Bible, favorite wood rosary, and printed prayers where I can get them easily. There’s an iPod speaker nearby so I can play chants and such when I pray.
Whew! Sorry that’s so long. 🙂 I’ve really enjoyed looking at all your pictures!

Guess I found this thread pretty late too lol. My home altar is pretty simple, I just started on it rescently(a couple of days ago). It’s a cofee table my aunt gave us, but my mom gave it to me and I used it to put my alarm clock, cell phone etc. on, but I put it in my closet and used it. It has a white candle and a crucifix in the center, a bowl of blessed salt, and a statue of the holy family, and on the other side, a picture I printed out of our Lady praying with a wooden rosary and a candle in front of it. In a lower part of it shelf thing(can’t think of how to describe it lol) I have all the spiritual books I own( a catholic bible, along with a 1611 KJV bible my grandpa gave me, a “young people’s mass book”, that “pillar of fire pillar of truth” book that’s advertised on this site. And a “new saint Joseph Baltimore Catechism”. I think that’s about it, I’ll post pics later.

I am way late in responding, but I have had a dresser set up as you can say as an altar. I had it even before I became Catholic. It has my Virgin de Guadelupe candles. I couple angel statues, my Virgin Mary statue with a Rosary. I now have my Baptismal candle up there. I have always been intrigued by the story of the Virgin de Gualaupe, I have a feeling that it was my following and devotion to her that finally brought me to the Catholic Church.

This is getting a bump because it is THE best thread I have ever read…keep it coming! God Bless 😃

I bought a kneeler. It has a place to set my Bible or Prayer book as I kneel. It is in front of a table. On the small table I have a Crucifix and 2 rosaries. I also have a Holy Water Font.

Sounds really nice and would be interesting to see what it looks like. I really found a lot of inspiration in this thread, knowing that it has been dead for quite a while.

👍

I myself have a home altar in my home. All I needed was an empty dresser, a cloth, a couple of books, and lots of candles!

Thanks to everyone who posted on here for inspiring me to create a home altar of my own in my bedroom.

At the moment I have a crucifix with a large candle on either side. ( I like to pray by candlelight).

My rosary in its box, a dyptich of Mary & Jesus, a bottle of holy water, and my bible/magnificat.

In future I would like to add some pictures of my family, one or two saints, and some incense to help create an atmosphere.

🙂

Hello, I’ve been wanting to post on here in years!
Finally I’ve made an account to do so, I’ve always looked here for inspiration!
Anyway, here’s mine : a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphotos-ak-ash4/263385_10150272522519362_669624361_7415709_6162564_n.jpg

Starting with the crucifix, it’s the first one I bought, I was thirteen, it’s rather small but matches the cabinet lovely. Then I have two icons of the BVM these I got from a Catholic gift shop called St.Paul’s in York, England. I got the four candlesticks off Ebay for a lovely price. My censer comes from a shop in Old town Rhodes, Greece.
In the center I have a nice bowl full of Holy water (My dog decided to drink it all today, I had to refill it, and now I’m low on Holy water -.- ) I also have a small candle holder from an Orthodox priest I met, this is where I light my votives. I have my first rosary from Lincoln cathedral, and prayerbooks.
In the frame I have a 2nd class relic of Blessed JPII (a piece of his cassock) and also in the corner, I have some soil from St.Therese’s grave aquired by a convent.

so that’s all, it keeps changing every now and again. But hopefully you like this. 🙂

That’s absolutely beautiful! Quite pleasant and pious!

whoa, there are enough candles going there to heat downtown San Fran. Hope you have a fire extinguisher handy.
