I can see the attraction for those who like the idea

but as one poster had pointed out. Altars are where Mass is celebrated etc.

To the opening poster I know you are young but may be you could ask your priest to come round and bless it for you or a simple little service including a blessing then you will know that the Altar has been blessed and it wont matter how much home made it is, God approves and you be more focused in prayer. Your favourite hymn and prayer may be, a simple blessing service and that will help you feel happier about it. But please don’t get upset if the priest thinks not. Let him guide you

I’d like to get small-medium sized statues (I’m thinking less than 12") of Mary and St. Therese. Where’s the best and most economical place to get them? Amazon or ebay?

Both have good selections.

I know this is somewhat off topic, but did anyone ever receive a first class relic of a saint from a religious congregation, and how does one contact them? I’ve heard that people who have them say “Oh, I just asked the congregation” but which congregation has them and how does one ask?

Thanks

I have mine set up on a desk. Wall crucifix at eye level, sitting or kneeling. Picture (in frame) of Our Lady of Fatima, a Holy Card of St. Joseph on one side of the crucifix and a Holy Card of Our Lady of Grace on the other, Holy Water on the desk, a picture frame with the Sacred Heart of Jesus and Immaculate Heart of Mary, a picture of the Divine Mercy, some miscellaneous Holy Cards and pictures of Our lady, relic of St. Benedict and Our Lady of Lourdes and my Rosary 😃 Oh! And my palms! On my other one, I have much of the same but a very beautiful icon of Our Lady of Tender Compassion. It’s always good to have spiritual books nearby too! I have a limited budget as well!

I’m really excited to be receiving my first relic soon (I think it would be considered 3rd class)! I can’t wait to add it to my home prayer corner. 😃

I felt inspired tonight to move stuff around to create a dedicated space. I live in an apartment so it isn’t a perfect setup, but it will do. I’m waiting on a few relics in the mail that I hope will come soon :gopray2:

I think it could easily be called a meditation room or prayer room and still havae a table with sacramentals upon it.

I’m quite new to the Catholic faith (currently in RCIA) but it was praying the Rosary as a way to deal with my anxiety disorder that helped me learn Christ’s grace and the love of the Holy Mother. praying is what I’ve done here every day since. I look forward to spending time in this serene little corner of my apartment. It’s still pretty simple. I bought the crucifix without realizing it glows in the dark lol! But I actually quite like it since my altar is next to my bed and I see the cross right before I fall asleep.
ugh seriously? Oh well, here are some links if anyones interested:

Welcome to the catholic faith! Just wanted to let you know I do the rosary and it is a ‘huge’ help in my anxiety! I even listen to a rosary cd on the way to work every morning. I’m hearing impaired (hearing aid) so have relied on my other senses to pray too…I burn incense (frankincense & myrhh) and that is something that aleviates my anxiety much! Wish I could burn it in my car on the way to work 🙂 I also always try to wear or carry a blessed object on my person which has been a huge lifesaver to me.

God Bless and have a wonderful day!!
