I posted this on another forum as well, but as many trads go this route, I thought I’d ask here too: Anyone know of any good books or videos on home-birth?

There are tons of websites 
There are some books, some simply present your options, and others focus more on homebirth. Here are a few off the top of my head - some of them I have read, and some I have not, so I’m not sure of the content)…
Homebirth by Sheila Kitzinger
Books that reference home birth throughout:
Ina May’s Guide to Childbirth by Ina May Gaskin
Your Best Birth by Ricki Lake
Pushed by Jennifer Block
There are many other really good books.
There are also videos, but they are quite expensive (they will have births in them, so take that into factor). One book comes with a DVD (Well, actually you can get the book without it, so look for the one with it - it’s called “Gentle Birth Choices” by Barbara Harper
Other videos: The Business of Being Born, Pregnant in America, Giving Birth, Doula! The Ultimate Birth Companion also has homebirth stories in it. Again, there are many more, but these are the ones that I have.

Since this is the Trad board (and even if it wasn’t I would still say this)
I have seen Business of Being Born and it is a fantastic film. There is, however, nudity. And I know a lot of people are incredibly uncomfortable with nudity- esp when it comes in the form of full frontal nudity of a woman in labor.
This is a very through documentary about birthing, and you see everything (at one point, the camera is in such a position that you see the baby crowning and then being delivered. There is no “haze” like on TLC or Discovery)

I wasn’t sure what kind of videos she was looking for (modest, to graphic) - the video “Giving Birth” is fairly modest (by birth video standards so I use that term loosely - ). You will also see graphic birth content (nudity and crowning) in Gentle Birth Choices, and the Doula film.
Pregnant in America has some good information and only has the one birth at the end - but she doesn’t give birth on film. I think you only see her laboring from the top up, and see only her back.

Thanks a million, I look forward to the books and videos. We do have The Business of Being Born, very good. Didn’t care for the nudity, husband really disliked that. I don’t know why some women feel the need to be naked during birth, I personally feel it’s part of the “woman empowerment” garbage (I am woman, hear me roar). Anyway, good information, I enjoyed the video. And thanks JoyfulMama for the offer of email, I may take you up on that sometime!

From talking to some women who homebirthed after hospital birthing, they said that it was because they wee far more comfortable naked. Since they were in their own home, and able to do what made them more comfortable, they did it.
