hello,

what i’d like to ask the other members of the forum:

do you practice home haircut ?

does anyone have suggestions, where to find a good video online, where haircut is shown and explained ?

concerning your daughters:

do you at least cut the bangs yourself sometimes ?

what length of a girls bangs do you prefer ? reaching the eyebrows - or keeping them shorter for practical reasons ?

maybe you even show us your self-made haircut/bangs in a photo here !

You can pick up a good cosmetology textbook from any junior college or most public libraries… or go browsing youtube for suggestions.
The most important thing is to invest in a good hair cutting scissors with a thumbrest (available at any beautician supply house). You really need that fine tip and that thumb nock for the control; do not try to get by with any other scissors as other scissors will slip on your hand in the positions you’ll have them in and you’ll have no control. A good long comb that has both coarse and very fine is also essential, as are long spring hairclips to hold the hair you’re not working on up and out of your way…
Cut bangs gently curving downward in layers for the most natural (non-Vulcan!) look and do not cut bangs shorter than the eyebrows. You cut hair wet and it shrinks quite a bit when it dries, particularly if it has curl to it, beware!
Beware also if you are very good at this, you’ll be stuck doing it forever and ever… and often in the middle of the night before someone’s big important event the next day.

No matter what picture I gave my hair stylists (and I tried many stylists) they always gave me a MULLET.

I’ve been cutting my own hair ever since and no one ever says to me, ‘Hey, you cut your own hair, right?’ I get a much closer result to the look I actually want. No mullet.

It’s not that hard. There was an old book, How To Cut Your Own (or anyone else’s) Hair. I bet these days Youtube is filled with stuff like that.

I wore my hair really short for a long time, and cut it myself with one of those FlowBee things. My hair is fine and very straight, so this works well for me (they don’t recommend it for people with curly hair). My hair always looked OK, not like a cut from the trendy salon downtown, but just as good as some cuts I have had at the cheaper hair places. To do the hairline at the back of the neck, I held a hand mirror in one hand, stood in front of the bathroom mirror so I could see, and very carefully used the clippers. Now I have grown it out into a jaw-length bob with bangs, and I trim my own bangs. Sometimes I get them too short, but if that happens, I just wear a side part and sweep them to the side until they grow out a bit. It saves me a lot of money at the salon! I also did my own color and highlights for a long time, until I decided to go natural. You can find all sorts of instructional videos on YouTube.
