1 Homer is not the 1st cartoon character on a stamp.
2 The US is not a joke… Jokes are funny and what we are becoming and have become is not funny.
3 There is plenty wrong with europe, just like anywhere else on earth. If you don’t see it then you are part of the problem.
4 The big question is why is a post office that always complains about money even develops these programs.
5 I dont watch the simpsons but in the way of “adult cartoons” (I know it is somewhat silly to think adults watch cartoons instead of thier own families) the Simpsons are mild compared to some really disgusting trash marketed to kids and adults alike.

You just gave the reason. What with email and texting and all the cool new ways to send information, fewer and fewer people are using “snail mail”.
So my theory is that the P.O. is trying to appeal to collectors - people who buy the stamps primarily because they like the way they look. So naturally they have to come out with a variety of designs, to bring in the most $$.
Even Cletus the Slack Jawed Yokel coulda told ya that!

Of course there are problems all over the world. But my question (I can’t speak for the other posters here…) is why was Europe singled out in this thread? Is there something specific which makes the entire continent of Europe worse than the United States? I’m not being facetious here. Having lived in more than one part of Europe I genuinely am curious if there is something I am unaware of.

There is a perception in the US that europe is 1 socialist and 2 secular. Now it is a political debate to have in another thread but everyone should be aware of this perception. How is it that you as an American living abroad are not?

True but I would be interested on if the revenue they bring in even matches the cost. But being a government beurocracy that comparison probably doesn’t exist. Myself, I try as hard as I can to NOT use the USPS. I’d pay more to fed ex something any day.You just gave the reason. Well you should use it. Get some use out of your tax dollars.
Besides their service is usually on par with fed ex, and on some occasions even exceeds it.

Actually with CUSTOMER service our local PO is horrific. I have complained many times. And Several of my cousins work for the PO Every time I use a “company” I get so much better service. Every time I send a package UPS is almost always the cheapest. As for using it just to spend tax dollars, I am afraid That attitude is why we are in some of the problems we are in. Unfortunately the attitude of spend it if it there is all to prevalent these days. I would like to think we could try to demant more of our government while being resposible (fiscally and morally) citizens.

Wait a minute, the USPS is subsidized by the federal government? As far as I know, the federal government regulates the USPS and allows it to act as a monopoly, but does not fund it. Do either of you have evidence of this?

Hey I’ll take Simpson’s on a stamp over Obama any day. The show may not be exactly a saint’s program, but at least they don’t have the authority to allow and promote mass murder of the unborn.

the simpsons just finished their 20th season, next year they will tie gunsmoke(also a good show) as the longest running prime time show in u.s. history, and they are contracted(staff,writers,actors,…) for 2 years past that. throw in a great movie and i think they are more than stamp worthy.

The Simpson’s has more positive messages in it’s episodes then most TV. I agree that some are bad, and Homer’s choking Bart isn’t a model father. However:
- When Lisa finds out Homer is stealing cable, she asks her (protestant) pastor if she should turn him into the police. The pastor says that on the surface that would be an ideal solution, but to remember to honor her father. And that the best way to do that would be to protest the stolen cable by not watching it herself. By going out on the lawn while Homer is watching a boxing match, she slowly converts the family to the right way while still honoring him.
- In both episodes where Homer and Marge are tempted by adulterous affairs, they turn them down and return to each other.
- In the episode where Homer has his life just right and is working at the job he is absolutely the happiest at, Marge gets pregnant with Maggie. Never once is abortion even considered as an option. Instead, Homer goes back to work at the job he hates and sacrifices his happy life. And puts a sign on the wall at work saying “do it for her.” As if it’s what any man would do as a matter of fact when faced with an unexpected pregnancy.
- When Marge has to paint a picture of Mr. Burns, she can’t find any good qualities to emphasize. In the end she paints him naked. In her speech she says that beneath his pointy nose and evil exterior he is a human being, one of God’s creatures as beautiful as any other.
- The episode where Bart sells his soul to his friend. Then realizes the gravity of what he has done. And his loving sister Lisa using her money to buy it back shows a brother and sister truly loving each other in spite of sibling rivelry.
- They go to church every weekend. The view of the church shows most of the people in the show in church, every weekend.
- When Homer has his snow plowing business and teams up with Barney, he says “when two friends come together, not even God Himself can stop them.” A voice from Heaven promptly replies “oh yeah?” At which God causes the clouds to separate and a bright sun to melt all of the snow. With no snow to plow, they then show his truck getting repossesed. Showing that God cannot be mocked, and that there is a price to pay for doing so.
- During the Simpsons movie, Homer’s epiphany is that other people are more important then him.
