I am beginning homeschooling my 3 year old (just very simple things, loke songs, to start). I brought up the idea of saying the pledge of allegiance to the flag to my husband. He os protestant and said, “Cool! How about the pledge of allegiance to the christian flag?” It sounds like it’s not against Catholic teachings, but what would you do? Personally, I feel wierd replacing the American flag with some made up flag by a protestant a hundred years ago…

Why not just recite the Nicene Creed? Pledges to flags are weird.

I operate on the “what would my kids need to know tomorrow if a tragedy happened and they had to go to school.”

The pledge of allegiance to the Christian flag would not be one of them.

My list is:
-Pledge of Allegiance
-Knowing a parent’s phone number, their address and their “school” (aka curriculum)
-Knowing the Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be and Angel of God (if they went to a Catholic school)
-Knowing what state and town they live in (kids often don’t understand that their address contains their stat and town)

That’s quite a bit for the 7 and under crowd to know. No need to add some obscure chant to it.

The Catholic Church is not a member of the federation of churches that adopted this flag. So, no.

Pledge allegiance to the flag of our country, or if you want something religious recite the Apostle’s Creed, Nicene Creed, or our baptismal promises.

I’d also suggest having them recite the constitutional oath over the pledge of allegiance if you want to do something “patriotic”

I was home schooled all my life and I can only remember reciting the Pledge of Allegiance twice in that whole entire span. On the flipside we did recite the Angelus at 12:00 for a looong time.
