Does anyone ever attend Mass where the Priest talks about the Church’s teaching on artificial contraception, abortion, chastity, sexual relations outside of marriage.

No. I joined the Church in 2008 and as yet I have not heard a homily on
those issues.

Heard one homily on how abortion is wrong but that was years ago. Otherwise, no.

Mary.

Before the gay marriage ruling, I had one priest give an incredibly intimidating homily on gay marriage and the impending court ruling. He then proceeded to blast the contraception mandate.

Rarely and then the message is lost in language that is ineffectively saccharine. We not only need stern homilies but those that are loud and animated to get the congregation out of the bulletin and/or wake them up.

Our priest preaches what is relevant to the day’s Gospel and readings, and yes, he has taught on those topics.

I have not heard a homily ever on the any of the subjects that you have mentioned… that’s a shame as sometimes they should be talked about and it could very easily be brought in with the current readings and Gospel for various Sunday’s. I think part of it at my church is our pastor is afraid to cross that bridge… not sure why though.

8 years ago I heard two separate homilies (spaced a few months apart) from the same priest present the Church’s teaching on contraception. While mentions of abortion have been much more frequent, I think those two are the only ones I’ve ever heard presenting your topics from the standpoint of sexuality as opposed to life ethics.

Our pastor used to speak about all these things. A number of families left the parish because of it. I even had one neighbor tell me that her husband refused to go to Church if he was going to hear about sin. 🤷 Lately our pastor has taken a path of least resistance and most of his homilies are about nothing really at all.

Some of the best homilies I ever heard were at a nearby parish at the Youth Mass. That priest pulled no punches. He spoke about cohabitation, abortion, contraception, sex before marriage and was very, very clear. Even though he has since been moved to another parish, this parish is the only one near me that has had several bulletin inserts and columns about the same-sex “marriage” issue.

I have never heard any of those issues addressed in a homily. I know many, many Catholics who never have also. Just being honest…

Our priest does the same, and is very good at it thank God. He’s not afraid to speak out, and teach on the “sensitive” topics.
