Nope. An action you do resulting from homophobia can be a sin though.

“Homophobe” is just a meaningless buzzword manufactured by leftists to stir up emotion. It would help more if you provided a more specific definiton for what you’re talking about.

Is being a homophobe a sin?
My first answer would be NO. Fear of Homosexuality is NO sin.

However; I will say that such fears are often misguided or misplaced.

In fact Being a Homosexual is No Sin.
However; homosexuals who practice sexual abominations is a sin, as it is likewise for heterosexuals who also practice sexual abominations.

Acts of Sodomy can never be justified even if there are two consenting people.

Is being a homophobe a sin?
not if you use the word in its true sense, a psychological disorder that exhibits as an irrational fear of homosexuals themselves, or of the homosexual condition or attributes–analogous to other phobias such as irrational fear of spiders, or airplanes. Obviously a psychological disorder is not a sin. If you mean anyone who upholds traditional biblical and Christian teaching that condemns homosexual ACTS (not persons) as sinful, it is a virtue. If you mean anyone who commits acts of violence against homosexual persons, they are sinful no matter what the justification or reason given.

I mean hatred
then use the proper terminology, and be specific. Is it a sin to hate homosexual persons? Yes it is a sin to hate anyone. Is it a sin to speak the truth about God’s commandments regarding homosexual acts? No, it is a virtue and praiseworthy. Is it wrong to hate the sin? No God commands us to hate all sin.

I mean hatred
Well, hating gay people is wrong.

Hating heterosexual people who oppose the gay agenda is wrong, too.

But, opposing special rights for gay people does not make one a bigot, a hater, or a homophobe.

Yes, it is a sin to hate anyone. Its not as if its a sin to hate good people, but okay to hate bad ones.
Ummm no. Jesus said to Love our enemies. That doesn’t mean we have to be victims to them. We are not to hate anyone.

I mean hatred
My guess would be that hatred is a venial sin or not a sin at all, since hatred is an emotion and you aren’t consciously choosing to experience it.

Acting on your hatred and doing things to hurt gay people would obviously be sinful.

Agreed; but to a point. Satan is are greatest enemy. We are not bound by Jesus to Love this Great Enemy.

Interesting question.

I would have thought that harboring a phobia towards another human being would be contrary to the command to ‘‘love one another as I have loved you’’.

I dont quite see how you can do that fully and joyously if you carry with you a fear of that person because of their sexual orientation (or race, or faith, etc).

Whether it’s an actual sin or not… Im not qualified to say.

Well said. Mother Theresa loved the people she helped without judgment. She let God deal with that, besides hating the sin will not change anyone if that is the intention. If you are not Gay you probably do not have to be concerned about your self committing this sin anyway, so hating it is irrelevant.

God Bless

Dear Friends,

To brand a man a ‘homophobe’ because he opposes homosexual deviancy on religious grounds, is not dissimilar to using the term ‘troll’ on the internet as an *ad hominem *strategy to discredit an opposing position by attacking the proponent. Both are instances of people flaunting their annoyance at opposing viewpoints (by which they have usually been thrown off balance) and trying to score cheap debaters points at the expense of their antagonist.

Invariably, calling a man a homophobe is an attempt to halt rational debate of an issue by shifting the focus to either one of the participants. In so doing they dismiss another man’s arguments based on some real or supposed attribute of the person. In this case, the supposed attribute is a fear of homosexuals. However, even if a man was afraid of homosexuals, that would in no wise diminsh his arguments one iota against their sinful aberrant conduct.

In any event the homophobia charge does not stand up to scrutiny. The vast majority of those who condemn homosexual deviancy are not fearful of homosexuals. Clearly one can disagree with something without necessarily fearing it, thus the attempt to close down reasoned discussion falls flat. It is an attempt to divert attention from the arguments against one’s position by focusing attention on the one who proposed the arguments, whilst trying to claim some moral high ground against him. This says more about the person using this abusive epithet than the one against whom thier abuse is directed.

Warmest good wishes,

Fear and love are not opposing emotions. One can have both love and fear for a person. With respect to your quote, as long as people are making strides to emulate Jesus’ teachings is that not enough? Fear is acceptable, acting out because of it is not.
