Homosexuals specifically target the Catholic Church because she has never backed down on her teachings regarding sexual morality.
This, certainly, but also pure ignorance. They simply do not know what the Church actually says about homosexuals (Catechism 2358).

Or perhaps they do know what the Church teaches about homosexuality, but just want the teaching changed.

Sure, that’s true too. I guess I’m thinking of the type who are inclined to call Catholics bigots and such. Those people clearly do not know what the Church teaches.

Edit: Cake Day! 04’ no less; you’re a grizzled vet in these parts.

  1. Homophobia exists. Many people have ill will toward people because they’re gay.
  2. False accusations of homophobia exist. Many people call genuine moral beliefs homophobic, falsely.
We must realize that both #1 and #2 are true, or else we are enemies of Christ, since we are enemies of (some of) his children.

See post #16. I believe this is the correct reading of this article. Of course homophobia exists, and, per the CCC, it should be avoided.

And some others know what the church teaches, but they don’t see that teaching reflected amongst the faithful. Thus, they are dubious about whether LGBT+ individuals are really welcome in the church.

All of this is due to homosexuals proclaiming their sexual inclinations in the public arena. Heterosexuals do not do the same thing. In addition, militant homosexuals taunt the public in order to promote their sexual lifestyle. They aren’t satisfied with just being accepted, they want their sexual tendencies to be PREFERRED. Look what is happening in the public schools today! Kids are now being taught homosexual “history” in some schools! What other group of people announces their most intimate desires in the open public? We are living in an upside-down world. “Woe to those times when evil is perceived as good and good is perceived as evil.” (Isaiah 5:20)

so homophobia doesn’t exist?
It really doesn’t. Unfortunately, those who stand up for marriage being between a man and a woman only are accused of being homophobic by those who think everyone should endorse and promote a lifestyle that is referred to as an abomination in the Bible.

It really doesn’t.
I think it definitely does exist. Homophobia (as I think of it) is nothing more than dislike of and prejudice towards homosexuals. It’d be hard to argue this does not exist.

Agree 100%.

It’s not dislike or prejudice against homosexuals but dislike of the lifestyle.

As Catholics, as Christians, we are able to love the sinner but must not condone or support the sin.

You guys realize people have been murdered for being gay or thought to be gay. Or sterilized. Or stoned. Or raped.

It exists

Denying that it exist is at least uncharitable and insensitive

The majority of those attacked were alone when attacked. In about half the
attacks, witnesses were present but in only half of those did the witnesses give any
assistance. Over 80 per cent of the assailants were unknown to the survivor. Assailants
of lesbians were more likely to be known to them. The majority of attacks against gay
men occurred on the street near identified gay venues and were single instances of
violence.
There is such thing as homophobia and violence against those with SSA.

It is deplorable that homosexual persons have been and are the object of violent malice in speech or in action. Such treatment deserves condemnation from the Church’s pastors wherever it occurs. It reveals a kind of disregard for others which endangers the most fundamental principles of a healthy society. The intrinsic dignity of each person must always be respected in word, in action and in law.
But the proper reaction to crimes committed against homosexual persons should not be to claim that the homosexual condition is not disordered. When such a claim is made and when homosexual activity is consequently condoned, or when civil legislation is introduced to protect behavior to which no one has any conceivable right, neither the Church nor society at large should be surprised when other distorted notions and practices gain ground, and irrational and violent reactions increase.

All of this is due to homosexuals proclaiming their sexual inclinations in the public arena. Heterosexuals do not do the same thing.
Have you seen television? Have you walked through a mall? Plenty of openly proclaimed heterosexual inclinations everywhere. I’m not saying gay people have a sexual orientation that should rightly be proclaimed, but your statement above is simply false.

It’s not dislike or prejudice against homosexuals but dislike of the lifestyle.
I don’t think that the people who murder gay people in parking lots of strip clubs do it merely because they “dislike the lifestyle.”

Or maybe most homosexuals just don’t care what the Catholic Church teaches and don’t care if it changes its teachings or not.

It’s really hard to blame them. Just look at all the hateful comments about them on this forum alone. I’m deeply ashamed of the open hostility from some quarters. Not a shining example of being a light to the world.
