If someone who is debating doesn’t believe that the Catholic Church
The Op came onto a Catholic forum site to discuss a problem. One would assume all those deciding to join the discussion would have certain beliefs in common. This thread has devolved into personal matters with no regard to the original post.

I think this is what we call a false dichotomy and I’ll tell you why.

Because neither position is righteous in God’s eyes.

The point of God’s salvation is that there are rules put down for our own betterment. I mean you can’t just decide that if you’re “nice enough” you can just break the rules and everything will be fine.

The reasons for the rules are because morality matters. Doing hard things matters. And growing as a person in spite of the hard matters most. So even if the rules make no real sense to us? The whole point could just be to rise above our own animalistic natures in order to earn a place with Him in heaven. It could be all about conquering passion with reason and faith. It could be all about training ourselves to be stronger and more resistant to every single thing that comes our way to bend us.

So sure. As a guy with SSA I’d have the greatest time giving in to that? But then I’d only be living a half-reality. I’d never have learned how far I could push my levels of resistance? Or how hard I could fight to stand strong. We live in a world that fights any idea that we have to be better than our natures. But honestly there’s such a deeper dose of reality out there for those who try.

Peace Anne. I hope you understand that I care about your friend. I understand what it’s like to be there? But I also know what it’s like to take command of things that are disordered and fight hard. Really it’s not up to us to make things easier to sin more. We’re kinda supposed to be doing the opposite. And for good reason.

There are quite a few non-Catholics and even atheists who participate in these forums. And sometimes people make statements that are just not true, regardless of whether they are speaking from a Catholic point of view or not. It seems legitimate to respond to some of those statements even if someone is not Catholic.

With all due respect Thorolfr, this is a Catholic forum, and all the non-Catholics and atheists here are guests. We love having you here, but if hearing Catholicism on a Catholic forum upsets you I don’t really know what to tell ya.

If someone says that homosexual behavior is against Church teachings, that’s one thing. But if they make statements that imply that homosexuality by its very nature is linked to promiscuity or STDs, that’s something else and is not true. And statements like that are not even particularly Catholic.

This is the point I was trying to make. Instead of hijacking a thread you are free to start your own thread to refute this claim.

Now I’m going to stop doing what I’m asking others not to do and quit this thread😀

That’s fine. If somebody makes a falsifiable, empirical claim that you can falsify go ahead and do so. I was responding in the vein of what you, 'TisBearself, and humbleseeker were discussing, namely irreconcilable differences in philosophical assumptions of the participants of the forum. It sounded like you were suggesting that when such an impasse occurs that we just all drop it. At the end of the day this is a Catholic forum by and for Catholics to help Catholics and so Catholicism must be given priority. If this were an atheist forum, or an LGBTQ+ forum, or even a general debate forum I’d be inclined to agree.

I think it’s that she is a non-native speaker of English.

This thread is a bit scandalous, comparing the sinful natures of two people and asking us to judge which one sinned less. Not to mention it is now about someone’s friend that none of us know and yet as asked to judge her salvation.

This thread should be locked @camoderator

I suspect, however, that many Catholics in this forum also want to try their hand at apologetics. CAF used to have something on their page that said that it was “to explain and defend the faith.” If everyone here is a dyed-in-the-wool, believing Catholic, there wouldn’t be much to defend and no one would get better at defending their Catholic faith. As it is, people actually do a pretty good job of defending their faith. And there wouldn’t be much need for a non-Catholic religions section if it’s only for Catholics. You need non-Catholics to participate in that section to explain their non-Catholic religions.

But if two people are gay and are in a same-sex relationship, they’re not hurting anyone and it’s no one else’s business what they do in bed.
But they do hurt others. Christ is very clear about this in Luke 17:

Temptations to sin are sure to come; but woe to him by whom they come! It would be better for him if a millstone were hung round his neck and he were cast into the sea, than that he should cause one of these little ones to sin.

Homosexual relationships reach outside the bed room. Just look at western society that holds homosexuality up as something to be proud of, something to make someone “special” so that they shout it from the roof tops. The constant refrain that homosexuality is no big deal leads others into error and means that millions of souls are in danger of eternal damnation.
