The brotherhood refers to fellow Christians, which we are talking about here- a Catholic college, a gay person growing up in a Catholic home… Where on earth would you find in Scripture a passage that leads you to believe that Jesus would embrace the sins of anyone? He died so that we would not have to bear the weight of our sins, but He never said they were okay- we are called to be all that God wants us to be, pure in heart and deed.

BTW- For those out there who buy the product of people like Elton John… If you liked the looks of a product made by prisoners in a concentration camp, would you buy it? For my own two cents, I will not buy or watch or listen to products made by people promoting sin, as I feel it adds to their importance. There is more than enough entertainment out there in the world that I can successfully ignore those who try to sell sin with their products. Why should I build up what conspires to take what I love down?

Does this mean I can’t watch Star Trek anymore? George Takei(Sulu) just announced he is gay.

I avoid all products and media that sells this particular sin.

Recently I was at a college campus ( not Catholic ) with my DH for a Classical music concert. I was apalled by the posters that were plastered around campus for a drag queen contest that night. As I listened to my concert I thought for a moment about the sinful event that was being held at the very same time I was listening to some beautiful and inspiring music.

What really strikes me these days is that homosexuality seems to be pouring in from all over the place. Where in the heck is all this coming from? It seems like all hell has broken loose.

The MSM and the Hollywood folks want us to believe that homosexuality is morally acceptable–that’s why it’s everywhere. We like that which we are familiar with, so the more we see “out” gay behavior, the more likely we are to be OK with it. We were actually talking about this at work the other day–if homosexuality is supposed to be so accepted by society, why then, in all of the states so far that have had gay marriage issues voted on, did the issues pass by a big margin, declaring marriage only between and man and woman? It just shows how out of touch the media is with real life.

As a straight married woman, if someone told me to love another woman no way on earth could i do something like that. I dont believe homosexuals should be shunned, i believe they should be loved and accepted. Hatred is not what this church is about.

Yes, homosexuals should be loved and accepted as human beings - all humans have incomparable worth. However, if the homosexual is actively sexual with another of their own gender, then that behavior or lifestyle should not be accepted because it is morally wrong and against the natural law.

I see your point and agree with you. But doesn’t the word “fraternal” mean “brotherly”? If so, doesn’t this suggest that there be some bond of trust, repect or love between the two persons? Its hard to imagine that this relationship exists between people who only know of one another via forum posts.

And one of the five requirements for fraternal correction, according to the article, is: “there is a well-founded expectation that the admonition will be heeded”. I think this again refers back to the nature of the relationship between the two persons. Its much more likely that I will accept a rebuke from someone I know, love or respect than from someone I only know via their email name.

I agree with you that fraternal correction is an important obligation. But I am not sure that it really can (or should) play a role in online forums between relative strangers.

People come here to question, discuss and ultimately learn more about the Catholic faith. This is a great plave for teaching including fraternal correction.
