Homosexual Agenda Takes over in ECLA

Now the Lutherans are urging their members to accept gay and lesbian ministers. I bet Martin Luther would be turning in his grave.
This is what happens when there is no Vicar in charge with orthodox views.

Maybe we should just pray for our Lutheran cousins that one day they will understand the truth…and the truth will set them free.
 
I guess it stands to reason since the ELCA has intercommunion with the Episcopal Church.

I recall Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod folks I know would always get annoyed by this sort of thing. The papers tend to lead with headlines that say “Lutherans vote to accept gay clergy in committed relationship”. Sort of rolls them all in togehter.

This debate has been going on within the ELCA for a number of years. There will probably be a split over the issue, just as conservative episcopalians have called for a separation from the liberal wing of their church.
 
And since Lutheranism is already divided into the ELCA, the LCMS, and WELS, it would be very sad indeed to see them split themselves again.
 
I wonder what Luther Quest website has to say about this. As a general rule, they have no use for Catholics, so I guess I don’t really care. We have enough problems of our own.

And those are just the AMERICAN spinoffs. Its a big planet…
 
As a pastor in the ELCA, I am disheartened by the decision of our Church-Wide Assembly to urge bishops to refrain from disciplining pastors who engage in same-sex relationships and congregations which call such persons to be pastors.

At the same time (and I pray that this will not change) the official policy of the ELCA is that the only acceptable venue for a sexual relationship is in the state of marriage between one man and one woman. Obviously, there are many people who want this to change.

Please keep us in your prayers.

Actually, the three Lutheran synods listed comprise most Lutherans in the United States (about 98%), but they are outnumbered by smaller Lutheran bodies. See homepage.mac.com/pastorzip/uslutheranlinx.html

Most of these smaller bodies have come into being through theological disagreements in the synods from which they have split. In some ways I see them as being like sedevacantist catholic groups such as The Religious Congregation of Mary Immaculate Queen. See www.cmri.org. In both cases, those who have split accuse the orginal body of heterodoxy.
 
Thanks. I didn’t mean they were the ONLY American Lutherans, just that there are different Lutheran organizations in other nations of the world. Humans are a fractious bunch, aren’t we?

If a person is a member of the ELCA and wishes to leave and join the LCMS, is that possible since he is already a Lutheran? Is the process difficult?

Oh those darn homosexuals who want civil recognition of their relationships! How dare they!

It’s quite the different matter.

I don’t care if private churches choose to not accept homosexuals because they believe God has ordained them to do so, but it’s quite different for the state to categorically refuse civil recognition predicated upon those same religious superstitions.
 
And since we aren’t talking about the state, you are still off topic.

So what was the purpose of your comments? This is obviously a church matter, isnt it?

And I have yet to hear of a church that won’t ‘accept homosexuals’.
 
Sure, it’s a church matter.

Certainly refusal to allow their entrance into the ranks of the clergy constitutes non-acceptance, though. It’s not cause for state intervention by any means but it is bigoted and discriminatory in its own right.

You probably shouldn’t belong to a church you think is bigoted or discriminatory.
