Homosexual priests questions

Yes, in common speech homosexual (male) and gay are interchangeable. I haven’t read all the posts above, but, yes, in Catholic teaching, homosexual refers to an inclination to same-sex activity. The Church does not officially use the word “gay” but the meaning would be the common understanding, of one who actually had homosexual activity.

Having same-sex attraction is not considered sinful in itself, unless it is acted upon. The Bible and hence Catholic teaching calls upon same-sex attracted persons to be chaste (no sexual activity outside of heterosexual marriage).

The expression homosexual priests itself is a term largely coined out of misunderstanding and ignorance of ground realities.Since almost all the clergy who are found fault in sexual abuse are in incidences involving homosexual acts,a wrong impression is created that they are homosexuals! The fact is that probably all are hetrosexuals! So not much relevance in this categorization of priests.

The fact is PROBABLY ALL are heterosexuals!?
I’d love to know how you claim that fact…
There are no homosexual priests!?

Homosexual attraction or same sex attraction is not in and of itself sinful. I experience same sex attraction and have my entire life. I used to prefer the term homosexual over gay. Terms aside, I can recommend many books on the topic. Start with Living the Truth in Love published by Ignatius Press.

Because in the given circumstances under which priests normally work,no chance to practice
hetro even if one is so,but every chance to practice homo easily.

I’m actually pretty shocked at your understanding of things. Priests work with women more than men. It would be accurate to call most priests the only rooster in the hen house in most parish offices.

The very fact that in almost all cases the crime involved is homo, does it mean that all of them were homosexuals only or does it mean that it is because the chances for committing homo were more?I am convinced of the second view.

Ok. Odd. Because in times in my life when I’m denied the marital embrace homosexuality is not what I turn to. You can believe what you wish. Please stop using definitive statements like “fact” and “all” or “none” it doesnt bolster your opinion, or only shows it is weak.

What you feel as odd? How many cases of sexual offence against priests are known to you? Out of those how many are related to homosexual act?Have you ever wondered why they are mostly homo cases only? And if you think that it is because the priests were all homosexuals, you are far from ground realities and I would say it is your thinking which is odd,not mine.

A lot are known to me. In fact the priest who baptized one of my children left the priesthood and is" married" to a man. An openly gay priest was head of ministry at the college I received my theology degree from. I know many gay men who are priests or who tried to become priests. The priesthood can be a great attraction to a homosexual Male. One who struggles with closeted lifestyle with no hope if getting married to a woman, who perhaps struggles socially. Some of these men make it to ordination.

Since the inclination isn’t sinful, as many have stated, really the only issue for a chaste/celibate gay priest is what he teaches and how he witnesses to others in the LGBT community. If he preaches the truth as the Church teaches and directs them (and everyone else, of course) to chastity, then he can actually help bring healing to those who struggle with their chastity.

If, on the other hand, he is pushing for a change in Church teaching vis-à-vis the intrinsically disordered nature of same sex attraction and including same sex couples in the Sacrament of Marriage, that is problematic and sinful.

Pope Benedict XVI stated that men with “deep-seated” homosexual tendencies should not be admitted to seminaries; and thus not to Holy Orders.

There were many reasons he gave this instruction: A life of close contact with other men makes a continuous environment of temptation, the intrinsic disorder of homosexuality, and the importance of sacrifice that a man makes to abstain from marriage and fatherhood to serve the Church as a priest.

Those who want to argue about these reasons can take it up with Benedict, he’s still with us and retired at the Vatican.
