This made me sob, for several reasons, but especially because of the protesters’ hatred and the indifference of the media.
If one or two people had done this in a U.S. mosque or synagogue, it would have made national news – probably worldwide headlines – immediately – but I haven’t seen it covered, at least in my city, yet.

from another site:
The church’s response? After things settled down, the blasphemy ended, the lewd props removed and the families safe from fear of additional men and women running into and past them the pastor took the stage and led the congregation in one more prayer… not for retribution, or divine justice or a celestial comeuppance (that’s what I’d have prayed for) but instead that the troubled individuals who’d just defiled the Lord’s house, so full of anger and hate, would know Jesus’ love in their lives and God’s peace that exceeds human understanding.
Yesterday morning defined the difference between a church of believers and Michigan liberals. It also illustrated in shocking, painful detail precisely what we’re up against.

I hope these so-called “gay rights activists” aren’t the new KKK.

My humble opinion is that there exists a perception problem. There is a significant amount of rage and hatred against the Church since there exists a belief that the Church hates and condemns homosexuals. Of course, the media contributes to this misperception by using terms such as “ban” and “against”. These are aggressive terms, fueling the flames of hatred and promoting the “us vs. them” environment. Let’s change the perception; spread the truth of the Church’s position. We love these individuals, we want them to come to know the truth so we can be with them in paradise. The truth will set them free from the slavery of sin. They think they will gain more freedom by changing the laws, but continuing in their sin, they will actually lose it.

Jesus is the Way, the Truth and the Life. John 14:6

Why is this in Catholic News?

The local media did report on it. As to whether the national media should have reported on it, I am not so sure. A group of protestors disrupt a church service… surely this is a lesser action than setting church on fire, and yet such arsons are not considered worthy of national news.

Me too. Anarchists sometimes develop a violent fringe, and the name of the group, “Bash Back!”, sounds as if it encourages violence.

Oh brother. If a bunch of Catholics disrupted a gay pride event there’d be hell to pay. It’s about time the religions in this country were given protected status.

It is indeed deplorable that a peaceful worship service should be violently interrupted by any group, whether it be a homosexual anarchist group or an knitting circle of elderly matrons. These kinds of activities by this particular group will only serve to backfire and close the ears and minds of those who might otherwise listen with compassion and sincerity. The Church has little to fear from these folks, but much to fear from those who would overreact to these provocations. Legal measures should be taken against this group, but I hope those who are affronted by these actions, as I am, will not allow their anger to errupt into physical violence or similar kinds of ignorance and hatred as expressed by this particular group of people.

Whatever happened to the days of loving the sinner, but hating the sin? After all, God created marriage to be between one man and one woman; anything else is blasphemy!
And I’m not too hot about civil unions, either. But since a couple of friends of mine are in one, I gotta be diplomatic. Otherwise, these anarchists need to be prayed for.

Let me make sure of what you’re saying here. If a guy enters your house with the intent of intimidating you and vandalizes your property, you’d pray for him?

Me, I’d call the cops and have him arrested.

Then I’d pray for him.

You know, you’re right! I’d call the cops and have him arrested. If he had a dangerous weapon, I’d try to defend myself as best as I could until help arrived. I was just trying to weigh in some thoughts.

I believe that this is just the beginning of the persecution of Catholicism especially but obviously also Non-Catholic Christians as well.It really is a form of Kristalnacht that you’ll see repeated again and again. These slugs want to cow and intimidate Christians into accepting and embracing their sin and we have the responsibilty of defending ourselves our Faith and our Houses of Worship, physically if necessary.:mad:If we won’t defend ourselves why should the media or the police?Big strong healthy Christian MEN should physically remove these deluded cowards.
And by the way if this isn’t a HATE crime, then what is?

The reports in the mainstream media don’t mention any vandalism or violence, so the disruption may fall outside of the law. Florida has a law against disrupting a religious assembly, does Michigan?

homosexualists? when did that word come into play? do you have to actively promote homosexuality in order to move from a plain homosexual the more “lofty” homosexualist? can you be a straight homosexualist?

It’s a strange word, but I’ve seen it used here during the past 18 months or so.

I think if you say anything against oppressing homosexuals, that makes you a homosexualist, at least in the eyes of anti-gay organizations and individuals.

For your education…
We use the term homosexualist
to refer to any person, homosexual or not, who actively promotes homosexuality as morally and socially equivalent to heterosexuality as a basis for social policy. In our view Harry Hay, founder of the American “gay-rights” movement, and President Bill Clinton, who attempted to force the U.S. military to accept open homosexuals, are both homosexualists. Each has worked in his own way to legitimize homosexual behavior in America. Many heterosexual people are homosexualists. Many self-described homosexual people are not homosexualists. A homosexualist is defined by his actions in a sociopolitical context. This differs from Samuel Igra’s use of the term in Germany’s National Vice, which we have quoted extensively. Igra uses “homosexualist” to define sexual conduct only.

Disgusting behavior! I hope they can all be arrested under hate crimes legislation if such legislation exists in Michigan.

The ‘ist’ means that it has been politicized, or turned into a ideology. Often it’s used in a derogatory way, like when atheists call people of faith “religionists”.

Personally, I think these guys have done more to hurt their position than help it. I’m bicelibate, but I can’t help but think, “Get out of my demographic, you’re making us all look like thugs!” I’m not looking for sympathy, but it’s people like this who make me ashamed to be wired the way I am, and I can’t help thinking they’re just asking for us to be targeted even more by the people who forget how to hate the sin and love the sinner
