You still have to be careful! You are not clarifying the use of the word Gay when you used it.
Well I did clarify my use of the word gay with the qualifier “committed to celibacy”. There’s a difference between clarifying the word and erasing the word. As Catholics I think we have to understand that “ssa” is equivalent to other Christian jargon that no one outside the Church understands.

Anyways I don’t know why people on CAF so often get into a terminology debate between “ssa” and “gay”. Terminology is 100 fold or even 1000 fold less part of the problem than the prevalence of pornography and the messages coming from the Mainstream Media (MSM). How many women support the gay agenda simply because they watch Ellen, Tyra Banks, etc.

Wrong. NO one chooses pain and suffering over joy and love. Give it up!!
Even though no one chooses it, it doesn’t mean we don’t need to suffer. After we go through suffering our faith is stronger. We don’t know the roadmap of how our faith should look like. God does. We might pray for warm fuzzy feelings and constant blessings from God. Well, how strong would our faith be if God actually shielded us from difficulty.

We certainly wouldn’t be able to follow in the footsteps of Paul. Who effectively led Christian Churches while in prison. God knows better than us, and He knows when we need to experience suffering. All good things come from God, and suffering can sometimes be good.
Have Courage:
People who don’t CHOOSE to identify with the Lord FIRST, are not at liberty to even discuss how real or unreal they believe that freedon and joy is
Yep. Only God can free us from the enslaving chains of our sins.

It’s nothing but a biological function. The male body does not tolerate a buildup of semen, so discharge, whether voluntary (masturbation) or involuntary as in ‘wet dreams,’ is going to happen, just like women’s menstrual cycles. And if God has seen fit to have many of us alone and lonely, then it’s all the more likely. The sin of lust is done long before any sort of physiological response, that’s in the mind.
No one said gays have to be “alone and lonely”.
Or, it is equally likely 😃 that he will be told that it is indeed against official teaching, but that his conscience supersedes official teaching.

It is also equally likely that he will be told that as long as he locates a partner with whom he can be “committed and monogamous,” the Church – or members in it – approve of his homosexual relationship as a special exception to traditional marriage and to homosexual acts, being that supposedly such a relationship mimics those aspects of marriage.

Why do I raise the third possibility? Because there are CAF members who seriously believe that (have shared that publicly), and some of them hold positions of responsibility in their parishes, and have been or will be catechists themselves.
Or they might even get told by someone that homosexual acts are wrong, but there’s nothing wrong with loving someone of the same sex .
Wrong. NO one chooses pain and suffering over joy and love. Give it up!!
If you think pain and suffering are bad you should find a religion that goes on about how God wants you to be happy and rich instead of a masochistic religion like Catholicism
NO one should care if some body, religious or otherwise, ‘approves’ of how God made them or not. The ‘church’ is full of mistakes and abuses, and the people in it are most often just as bad. No one should be judging others anyway, esp. if they have no idea what it’s like to be so ‘ordained’ by God.
Ah, so you’re one of those mater si, magistra no people.

As a man who suffers from the illness and sin of same sex attraction I can tell you truthfully that it is a sick and perverted life style. Unfortunately the Catholic church will most likely just tell him it is ok, just be celibate. Well who wants to spend there life alone and celibate and suffering from homosexual thoughts? I didn’t. The only hope is for him to except Jesus as his Lord and Savior and the only name in heaven and earth that can save him. Trust me living your life celibate and with homosexual and bi -sexual thoughts will be hard but until he see’s his life style as a chosen path against God and sinful, there is nothing you can do but pray for him. Unfortunately most people, teachers and priest at the RCIA program will be to politically correct and ignorant of what the Bible, early Catholics, saints, popes and church fathers thought on this issue

**Since I didn’t say gays had to be alone and lonely, you’re right. I was talking all people in general.

No, I’m not one of those people, though to the unenlightened, it could appear so, I suppose.

Wow, you really hate yourself. Why? You can’t change your basic nature, thus your thoughts, just by self-hypnosis. God won’t “heal” you because you aren’t ill, though I agree it’s definitely a significant disability. You got screwed at birth and have suffered because of it, but only the decisions you’ve made can be attributed to you, and you can be forgiven for those and make better ones in the future. Celibate life isn’t that hard, not with all of the real perversions, sickos and freaks out there…MOST of which claim to be heterosexual. Yeah, right.

I really have no idea what your point is? Could you repost it with out being hateful, offensive and ignorant of my feelings, struggles, my walk with Jesus and my passion and fear of working out my faith and salvation. God did not make me gay, it was a choice and conditioning thru media, schools, university, pagan beliefs and haven no morals or values. Homosexuality is a perversion and a illness, that I have left at the cross.

To assume that something as complex as homosexuality has only one cause is silly. A number of posters here have “gotten over it”, Melinda Selmys for example is married and several others no longer feel the attractions (I would like to note that as far as I know all are female).

The heavier the cross the better for the soul. It could be worse, far far worse.

God Bless you for your courage and honesty.

Behind every sin is a wound. The effort to elevate and sanctify that which cannot be sanctified is an effort to deny wounds. We just all have different wounds, that’s all. If each of us is honest, we know that we are slaves to our various perverted passions from many sources and toward many perversions (including idolatry of self), and we often feel that they control us. Same-sex-attraction plays no greater part in this battle than other perverted passions. It is no more binding or deterministic of behavior than the consuming attraction some have for money, for power, for domination over others, for praise from others, for material acquisitions and status symbols, for a hedonistic lifestyle, for an escape from effort, for glee in the misfortunes of our enemies. We can focus on these things, or let this dark side of humanity control us, if we want to; or we can choose to be liberated from their power, which is a false power promoted by the devil himself, to lure us away from hope in God.

To believe otherwise, one would have to believe that sexual attraction is more powerful than all of the other intoxicants I named (and more), which is absurd. There is no evidence that any of them are more resistant to the effect of God’s grace than any others. I’ve known of people who have conquered heroin addiction with no support save one loved one: no “programs” and no self-pity.

What this poster is saying is not trite: it is merely simplicity. There is no escape, on our own power, from the evil within us which tempts us and in which The Evil One dwells. The only escape is surrender to God, through the sacraments. That is the only transformation possible.

One of my roommates is openly gay and proud. He’s also in the RCIA program at the local Catholic Church. Is this a step in the right direction, or is it a misdirected step?

My immediate thought is “This could be a step toward healing,” but then I’m also worried about any misconceptions he might have about the faith. His sponsor is one of my other roommates. I don’t want to sound judgemental, but simply as a matter of fact without judging the intentions, both party and drink A LOT, are very “culturally hip” and the non-gay one is kind of promiscuous with the ladies. I worry about what he may be telling the RCIA candidate about our Catholic faith. Then again, maybe joining the Church is the only way he’d end up seeing the truth of his actions. What am I supposed to think/do? Do I just ignore it?
The first work of spiritual mercy is to admonish the sinner. We are all called to repentance. One of the ways we are guilty of another person’s sin is through silence. While we need to let others know when their souls are in danger, out of love for them. We do not need to be obnoxious about it. That does not help. People are converted by love.

Both of your rommmates are living lifestyles not in accordance with Catholic moral teaching. Their souls are in danger. Your responsibility is not to convert them, or argue with them. It is only to inform them of the teaching of the daith you all profess. If you do that you have fulfilled your moral obligation to others.

You might simply find a Catechism of the Catholic Church and show them the sections on sexual sin relevant to each of them. You don’t need to debate or argue anything. You can look it up online.

It is interesting that a person who openly professes a behavior that is condemned as sinful by a religion, would want to join that religion. A way to call to light the Church’s teaching is to ask your roommate why he is attracted to a relgion that says his behavior is sinful. If he thinks the Church does not teach this you can point it out in the catechism.

After that you can quietly pray for your roommates.

Then they’re deceiving themselves, and you. Homosexuality isn’t complex, and the feelings don’t just go away, sorry, not for ladies or men. And who said it has only one cause? One IS born with it, but other factors also influence it’s progression, and the acceptance or rebellion of same.

**“hateful, offensive and ignorant of your feelings?”–Then you need some serious comprehension work, friend, my post was in support of you and your situation. YOU’RE the one filled with hate, for yourself; no offense was intended nor present; and God DID make you gay. Stop attacking me for your problems and feelings, as confused and mistaken as they are, I am not at fault for them. If you can’t accept the truth of things, that’s up to you, so leave it there with yourself. Am I being ‘cruel’? No, just honest and assertive, the church is NOT a source of love and compassion for gays. Too much self-hate because of their OWN curious feelings.

Grace & Peace!
God Bless you for your courage and honesty.
Elizabeth, just a word of caution (not an argument!). While kelcca may indeed be courageous and honest, note that he identifies same sex attraction here (and in another thread) with sin. Here he writes that he is “a man who suffers from the illness and sin of same sex attraction…” I point this out to you because your well-meaning encouragement of his struggle may be taken as agreement with his viewpoint that same sex attraction and same sex activity are both sin. I think we know how problematic this sort of confusion can be, particularly when it is implicitly supported by someone who is well-respected.

Under the Mercy,
Mark

All is Grace and Mercy! Deo Gratias!

**One poster gave me a perfect example to use in an attempted insult (one must be careful what they ‘wish’ for):

I was born logical, I didn’t choose it after watching a tv show. I had no choice in the matter, though if I had, I would’ve chosen it.

The point is, I had no free will choice in it, just like most other aspects of my character and temperament. We’re born who we are, and do our best to fine tune it from there. That’s the truth of the matter, and the truth never changes, just people’s misperceptions of it.

Go with God./B**

Wrong. NO one chooses pain and suffering over joy and love. Give it up!!
When there is love, there is pain and suffering. It’s easy to love when it’s all fun and games. It’s not so easy when there is pain and suffering, but those difficult times are worthwhile when love is authentic. Jesus said there is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends. I don’t think that only means physically dying to protect others. It also means sacrificing one’s own pleasure for the sake of another’s soul.

How could same sex attraction not possibly be a sin? Trust me when I notice a guy and have thoughts about him it is sinful, it is against nature and God , it makes no difference if I act on it or not. To look at a man or woman lustfully is sinful. I was not born gay, that is a deception from the devil to confuse people. I chose my bi sexuality because I didn’t know better, because my friends, public school and the music and books I read told me it was ok to have these thoughts and do those actions. I choose homosexuality because I didn’t know Jesus and the truth of the Bible. anyone who things homosexuality is a healthy , normal, happy life style are delusional. I was heavily into the life style it is full of occult, drugs, pornography, depression, mental illness and addictions. I would go as far as saying I do not know one LGBT person who does not show sign’s of mental illness, addiction, and abuse. The Church Fathers and the writingsof the Saints said it was a sin, the Bible say’s it is a sin, if you really love and care for LGBT people the best thing you can do is be honest with them.
For me to continually identify myself as gay or bisexuial is a sin, I am not, I am a child of God, I was made to worship God and have faith in him, not to identify myself by my sin’s and illness.
