Can homosexuals morally enter into chaste relationships? For companionship, for example.
I suppose I am in a position to answer this and I would say a definite Yes!

Why? you ask

Because I am a Male (Homosexual, Gay,SSA) in a chaste relationship with another Male (Homosexual, Gay, SSA). I have been married to a Female, which was a disaster and thankfully the marriage was anulled. I am also a practicing Catholic.

As many of you have pointed out there would be a problem if either of the men were sexually attracted to the other, which may give rise to sin. However in our relationship neither of us are attracted to the other, we were once sexually active with each other but, the sexual attraction wore off, although we did (do) still very much love each other so decided to stay together.

We share a home together, we share the bills, have shared pet dogs, we go on holiday together. We can also be Romantic towards each other at times i.e. buy each other gifts, hug, kiss each other, say ‘I love you’ and no this does not mean we want to have sex together, it is purely platonic. We are faithful to one another and we both hope that if it is God’s will then we will be together until death us do part.

We are open about our relationship and have the blessings of our families, friends and in my case my spiritual guider, Priest. I beleive that God has brought Steve and I together for support, companionship, love and affection.

The only thing which I pray for in our relationship is for Steve to become Catholic then we could practice our faith together.

I do realise that there will be some on here who do not agree with what I have just said, but, I have been open and honest and I whilst I will read all replies and respect you as individuals I may not necessarily agree with what you say.

For those who support me I say thank you, you have looked beyond the ‘sex’ and seen that ‘sex’ does not come into this at all.

God bless

“Same gender” relationships of a romantic or “couple” kind --are not an open possibility.

They can have though have * friendships* with both genders.

Which is even a help towards great holiness.

and Catechism:

2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible. This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity. Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.

2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.

Catholic Answers Staff Apologist’s answer (which again is that “couples” and “romantic relationships” are something that is to be engaged in between those of the same gender)

It is very good that persons with this particular temptation and trial seek to be chaste and thus live joyfully in Christ.

It is important that we be clear that such is also to include avoiding “romantic” relationships and the like. For such is ordered to marriage.

What is needed is good friendships --especially Christian friendships.

Certainly those who have already made great acts of chastity and great changes are to be praised -especially in the present state of society. Such already goes with the cross contrary to the current culture! Onwards and upwards!

And let us help our brothers and sisters to make any other needful changes-and in return may they help us too in our following of Christ. We are in this together.

A pretty “light” answer in that Apologist’s response. One would think the person posing the question would have appreciated a little more explanation and rationale… You did a better job, Bookcat.

Thanks -but I will note that in that other “Q&A” format there on the other site that CA staff participate in -the answers are often “brief” from other responders too…and I imagine they got their hands full with us here too 😉
