Very strong words:
**Homosexuality destabilizes society: Vatican paper
**Tue Nov 29, 2005 10:38 AM ET

VATICAN CITY (Reuters) - The Vatican newspaper said on Tuesday that homosexuality risked “destabilizing people and society”, had no social or moral value and could never match the importance of the relationship between a man and a woman.

The remarks were contained in a long commentary published to accompany the official release of a long-awaited document that restricted the access of homosexual men to the Roman Catholic priesthood.

I wholeheartedly agree. It should not even be promoted as an alternative attraction. I can say this having come away from the attraction and defining myself as homosexual even while being celibate my whole life. The identity alone only brought me conflict.

Msgr. Anatrella is **very sound ** here. I might note that he is a Jesuit.

"Writing in L’Osservatore Romano, in an article that appeared alongside the Instruction from the Congregation for Catholic Education, Msgr. Anatrella said that homosexuality is “a tendency and not an identity.” "

"Anatrella observed that the Church has always taught that homosexuals should not become priests, since they suffer from a “structural incoherence” in their approach to human sexuality. "

"In practice, Msgr. Anatrella continued, experience has shown that when homosexual men become priests-- even if they are committed to chaste living-- “pastoral relations are very much complicated, and sometimes the teaching of the Church is neglected.” "

"The French Jesuit conceded that the Instruction from the Vatican may provoke protests, particularly from homosexual men who are already serving in the priesthood. But he told I Media that such protests reflect the fact that “they have already put themselves in an uncomfortable situation.” "

"When questioned as to whether the Church might be accused of “homophobia,” the French psychologist reacted quickly. The term “homophobia,” he said, is “a slogan of intimidation.” "

If you withold any moral judgements, celibacy would be as destablaizing to society as homosexuality, as every homosexual would refrain from sex regardless. It would fail to produce life either way.

I fail to see, again on a soley practical basis, how a homosexual couple living together in love is more dangerous to the stability of society than two homosexuals refraining from any sexual acts.

I am going to remember that phrase. It is true.

  1. “As in every moral disorder, homosexual activity prevents one’s own fulfillment and happiness by acting contrary to the creative wisdom of God. The church, in rejecting erroneous opinions regarding homosexuality, does not limit but rather defends personal freedom and dignity realistically and authentically understood” (No. 7).
  1. “There is an effort in some countries to manipulate the church by gaining the often well-intentioned support of her pastors with a view to changing civil statutes and laws. This is done in order to conform to these pressure groups’ concept that homosexuality is at least a completely harmless, if not an entirely good, thing. Even when the practice of homosexuality may seriously threaten the lives and well-being of a large number of people, its advocates remain undeterred and refuse to consider the magnitude of the risks involved” (No. 9)
  1. “She (the church) is also aware that the view that homosexual activity is equivalent to or as acceptable as the sexual expression of conjugal love has a direct impact on society’s understanding of the nature and rights of the family and puts them in jeopardy” (No. 9)
