Actually, those people are not Christians, if they are do those things and call themselves Christians, they are a lie. That is not Christ-like behavior in any way, shape, or form, nor does the Bible justify it.Like I said, it feels like an epic poem, or story. The main characters in those stories had trials and tribulations as well. None of them would be as popular or influential if they simply had an invincible hero.
I have been assaulted three times in my life for being not-straight, one of them was an attempted rape. The cops laughed and jeered at me rather than actually charging the perpetrators. Neither of the two men (One was responsible for two attacks) was ever charged with harming me. The man who tried to rape me actually said it was the will of God, and that it would make me straight.
He was clearly delusional, but I have never, ever, been insulted by a non-christian. I have been fired for being not-straight, and I have had co-workers shun me. Literally they would not talk to me, because they said ‘demons would spawn from my mouth and infect them’. I was let go from that job as well, because I was one person, while they were half a dozen and the incident was disturbing workflow, despite it not being my fault at all.
Nearly every single taunt, slap, assault, firing, teasing, bullying in my life has been because I come across as not-straight, and every single one of those people that did it, justified their behavior with the Bible.
It’s been a while since I read Job, but your experiences sort of reminds of this. He suffered many afflictions and lost nearly everything.
Christ was also taunted, slapped, assaulted, and teased. You two have a lot in common. Christ says, for my yoke is sweet and my burden is light.
If the real life stories do not move you, if words do not inspire you, maybe there are other things that do. You inspire me. One thing is for certain, I will teach my children to love.
I have a girl expected around Thanksgiving and we will name her Rachel. I thought that was kind of an interesting coincidence.
