I don’t believe that homosexuality is a vice, one not accepting that they are homosexual could be the source of angst.

I somehow doubt that your suggestions would " cure " a person of their same sex attraction.

If it could, there wouldn’t be any homosexual Christians.
Your profile says you are Catholic. The Church teaches it is a disordered activity and a grave sin. You MUST accept that.

Uhmmmm…You MUST mind your business.

Get off your soap box unless your going to start telling the hundreds of millions of Catholics who practice artificial birth control that they MUST accept that artificial birth control is a serious sin.

There are a disproportionate number of Christians that spend a disproportionate amount of time focused on homosexual sin…especially on Christian forums.

Too many quotes to quote.
  1. The creation stories in Genesis were never intended, by the Hebrews, to be taken literally. They are explantions of how the world came to be the way it was at the time, and set in a theological framework.
  2. When Scripture was written there was “male” and “female”, and never the twain should meet. Those who were receiving God’s word on our behalf explained things in terms that could be understood at the time. When Gregor Mendel opened the world of genetics we found that men had and XY chromosome pair, and women XX. Then we discovered that there were XY-women, XX-men, and hermaphrodites. Please don’t tell me that hermaphrodites choose to be that way. In the last 20 years we’ve discovered more and more about the human genome to the extent that we know there are genes controlling a large number of aspects of us which determine whether we fit the “male” or “female” mould. As a consequence there is ample evidence available to show that it is possible to have the genetalia of one gender and the disposition (=attractions) of the other. Thus it is quite easy to see how someone can be “born homosexual.” Please, also, let us remember that we are ALL (without exception) made in the image of God, and loved unconditionally by Him, for who we are. For those who might be thinking otherwise, I’m a happily married straight male with two well-balanced children, and I work with people who have been disenfranchised by the churches.

Yes any Catholic who practices ABC is committing a grave sin and assuming they know the act is grave then they are in fact committing a mortal sin.

As you were the one who brought up the point that you do not believe homosexual activity is a grave sin are you telling us that you reject the Church’s teaching?

How can you say to your brother, ‘Let me remove that splinter from your eye,’ while the wooden beam is in your eye?

I would take the anti-homosexual Christians more seriously if they spent equal time on all other areas of sin.

This is about the rights of individuals in a democratic society and not about whether or not I reject the Church’s teaching on a particular moral issue.

Her business is the Catholic Church and being as devout as she is, she is minding her business.

It is grave matter to use contraception. She is just sharing the TRUTH with you according to the teaching of the Catholic Church which was founded on the rock of St Peter…

Well, in the bible it does say that homosexual acts cry unto heaven for vengeance…🤷
Code:

“homosexual acts cry unto heaven for vengeance”…where does it say this…I have never heard of this, nor have I ever seen this quote. Verse and number please.

Oops.

I still would like to know verse and number.

Let’s remember, this thread is about a publically funded Catholic school that believed it had the right to discriminate based upon a persons legal same sex attraction.

This is about the rights of individuals in a democratic society and not about whether or not I reject the Church’s teaching on a particular moral issue.
What thread are you talking about?
Its not this one because this thread has nothing to do with any school.

This is the opening post of the thread by the original poster:

QUOTE
Let it first be known that I am completely against homosexuality. And that I don’t care what anyone says there is no such thing as gay marriage, maybe gay rings and gay sexual interaction but they are not presenting themselves under God so it is not a real matrimony.

My question is what is all the nonsense that I am hearing about people being born homosexual? I believe that this Bible verse would prove that it is completely not true.

“The Lord God then built up into a woman the rib that he had taken from the man. When he brought her to the man, the man said: This one at last is bone of my bones and flesh of my flesh; this one shall be called woman, for out of her man this one has been taken. That is why a man leaves his father and mother and clings to his wife, and the two of them become on body. --Genesis 2:22-24”

I got that out of a Catholic Teen Bible. And then I go hearing things about animals being homosexuals too and I really want to know what in the world all of this stuff (nonsense) is about.

Please and Thank You

My mistake…same applies…

I would take the anti-homosexual Christians more seriously if they spent equal time on all other areas of sin…they don’t and you no it.

Homosexuals are a small minority and their are endless threads condemning homosexuality.

Catholics who regularly practice ABC are a huge, absolutely huge number, where are the huge and endless passionate threads condemning them?

There are sound, medically, scientifically documented studies showing cases of identical twins where one lives gay and the other lives heterosexually. Identical twins means plain and simply, identical genetics. You do the math.

Sorry, but how many Catholics that use birth control are out dressing in drag and holding “Pill Pride” parades, et al.?

It’s the squeaky wheel, as they say, that gets the grease.

People are NOT born gay. There is no such thing as a gay gene and there is no medical or scientific evidence to even hint or suggest there is.
People become gay through one or more of upbringing, evnvironment and choice.
If there were a “gay” gene then it would be recessive as there is a small number of gays in the general population. Since the gene is recessive then after a given amount of time the recessive gene would not be in existene since there is no mating that would pass the gene on. Even with a small number of gays who pass, the gay gene would still end at a given point in time.

Thanks-I do appreciate it.

I’m still left with the same questions however. Why is the sin of homosexuality treated so differently than other sins? Why are homosexuals treated as if they are sinners at first glance-without knowledge of their culpability?
I think it’s because there are people GLAAD, the media, etc. that want to accepted as an alternative and acceptable lifestyle. Thus we have gay pride week, gay day at amusement parks, and the like. If someone is gay and struggling with living a chaste life that is very different from those that flaunt their gayness.
We are all culpable for are sins. That is not an issue. Obedience is the issue.

All grave sins are bad. We all agree but this thread is about honosexuality. If you want to discuss another mortal sin that’s fine but open up a new thread and we will join it.

By the way if you were to do a search in the forums you will find endless passionate threads about the evils of both artificial birth control and abortion.

So long as it is behind closed doors…now I understand.

I don’t believe that Homosexuality is right but I do believe that some people are born that way and if all of you had a son who from the age of 18 months wanted to wear ladies high helled shoes, carry ladies purses and wear ladies hats you would feel different about this. He always wanted to play with little girls and little girl toys even though I had no little girls but two other boys who are normal.
Thank you for your post and for loving your son unconditionally. The early evidence you saw in your son and the personal testimony of gay people (who have known the reality of their homosexuality since they were children) will tend to fall on deaf ears. For whatever reason, that evidence doesn’t count. Frankly, I could give a flying rat’s behind what “causes” this. The undeniable fact is that there are young people, very young people, who not only have a homosexual orientation but a homosexual orientation that will never go away. And those kids, many of whom haven’t committed an ounce of sexual sin feel shunned, hurt, and threatened by Christianity.
Even so, to say that a person is born gay is like saying that a certain man was born a murderer.
Most muderers have to murder someone before they are condemned for being a murderer. That’s the difference, and it’s a big one. To be fourteen and to beg God for mercy because of who you are attracted to is a scary place to be. Why was I sorry when I had done nothing wrong? The answer is spread all over this board and all over Christianity. You may not see it, but trust me, it’s there.
The Church clearly teaches that homosexual orientation is not usually something the individual has any choice in, and that experiencing that temptation without submitting to it is not in any way sinful. Let’s not be “Cafeteria Catholics” about this.
You are so right, and I can’t help but wonder how many Christians truly believe that.
Sorry, but how many Catholics that use birth control are out dressing in drag and holding “Pill Pride” parades, et al.?
How many gay Catholics don’t dress in drag or march in parades? I could be wrong, but I’d be willing to bet that most drag queens who march in gay pride parades don’t go to mass every Sunday and receive the Eucharist. Can the same be said for Catholics practicing birth control? Do we really want the “parade” to be our sin barometer?

And the debate will rage on forever. God be with us. Peace.

Apparently not.

If there are 30 countries that hate the United States (or any country) because, say, we allow our people great freedom, but only 1 of those 30 countries launches an attack, who’s gonna get the “shock and awe” treatment? All 30, or just the 1?

You’re not understanding my point.

There are five rivers that run through your town. Four of them are fine, the fifth, the weatherman tells you, is about to flood. Which of the five do you pay most attention to and why?

You have ten different physical ailments. One of them is deadly, the other nine are not (at least at their current stage). Which one do you focus all medical treatment on and why?

As soon as Catholics that use birth control start organizing public Pill Pride parades and start advocating for the right to marry their pills and all that, trust me, the anti-birth control crowd will become much more vocal about the problem. Until then, it’s the homosexual “special interests” that are demanding much of the grease.

So they ignore the MASSIVE number of Catholics who use birth control and they concentrate their energies on a small homosexual minority.

I fear the motivation behind that is a deep rooted bigotry.
