Homosexuality in Israel

Of course an alcoholic can be a good Catholic as long as he is sober. Homosexuality, the sexual preference for someone of the same sex, is not a sin. The ACT of homosexual sex is the sin. That is what the Church says as I understand it.

If you are saying that a mere urge to have inappropriate sex makes one a bad Catholic, then you need to back that position with a quote from Church teaching.

Perhaps we are misunderstanding one another’s posts.

This may sound crass but I dont give a hoot what the Catholic Church teaches, I care what the bible teaches. The urge for homosexual sex or the temptation of such is not a sin it is a sin if you act on it or if you fantasize aboout it?

The Catechism tells it different

A person who is homosexual can be a perfectly good Catholic provided they are chaste. Homosexual acts are never licit but it is never a sin to be tempted. We are all tempted with one thing or another. Sin lies in accepting the temptation and then acting upon it.

The Pope used the word disordered in one of his addresses in describing homosexual attratction. I used it in that sense.

I specifically said in my post that it was the action that was the sin. And you and I obviously agree. Please read my post again.

A mere thought is not sinful unless one continues the thought and wants it to go on.

A sinful thought might arise in the mind, but should be let go of as soon as one recognizes it has arisen. If one fails to do this and continues to take pleasure in the thought, then sin comes into play because the unbidden thought then becomes volitional. I think all Christian religions would agree with this.

If there is some passage in the bible that contradicts this, I would be interested in reading it.

I probably should point out that I was speaking from my understanding of Catholicism. I am not a Christian and am not speaking from my own beliefs.
