I have read the news articles regarding the Vatican’s new mandate to prohibit homosexuals from entering the seminary and becoming priests. Actually, I completely agree with this move. I’m sick of people saying “homosexuality as an orientation isn’t a sin, but committing a homosexual act is.” What don’t they understand?

God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Humans weren’t meant to be gay, we were made to be attracted to the opposite sex in order to be able to reproduce and multiply and all that stuff, not to commit horrible immoral actions. Why did God destroy Sodom and Gomorrah? Because the inhabitants of the cities were constantly committing homosexual acts.

It is not human nature to be gay. People who say that they were born gay are outright lying. No one is born gay; we are all born straight. Homosexuality is unnatural, simply put. We weren’t created gay, so why should we be? I’m getting sick of gays complaining that they don’t get treated fairly. Yes, we should be nice to them, but they willingly go against God’s laws and practice homosexuality. Why won’t these people get it? Homosexuality is a sin, they know it, yet they continue to practice it.

What has this world come to, when homosexuality is accepted as the norm in society? Well, it shouldn’t be, that’s obvious, and if we just stand around and not do anything, nothing is going to get done.

Taking back the rainbow is a start, but we’ll have to do better.

Ou Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ never mentioned homosexuality. Yet in his Gospel of Matthew he talked about leading children to sin and that death was too good for those that did.
Yet while our bishops have been preaching about, abortion, and Gays they seemed to have missed leading children to Sin.

You think that’s something? I read an exerpt from a recent interview that a man named Larry Kramer gave. He was talking about Schwartzenegger’s veto the state Senate’s bill to legalize gay marriage and how outraged he was that gays weren’t vocalizing their opposition. Kramer said, *“Schwarzenegger will run for re-election. He should be afraid of us. There are a lot of gays in California. If we want to live without rights, that’s fine. But I don’t. We need rights. We need health care. We need insurance. Marriage comes with over one thousand financial benefits, starting with taxes.” *

Well, if that’s the only reason gays want to get married, then that just confirms what I’ve suspected all along. The gay community does NOT consider marriage as a sacred institution. It’s a financial benefit! How ridiculous. Gays want rights. They’ve had them all along; they’re the same rights we all have. They need health care and insurance? Work for it like the rest of us! The last thing we need in our churches are priests who can’t control the demons of homosexuality enough to admit that being gay is a learned behavior; not something you’re born with or just have to live with!

ChristianWAB, that’s amazing.

One of my old friends is a lesbian. When she told her parents, they were fine with it. Her father even said, and I quote, “Honey, that’s great. Now I don’t have to worry about you having kids at a young age!” How ridiculous is that? That is just plain STUPID.

People in my own school condone homosexual orientation, but even that is a sin! It’s unnatural, and the movement should be slowed down and stopped. But no, it’s growing faster and faster, and the Catholic Church is finally stopping it from taking over the Church.

It is incorrect to say Jesus never mentioned it, for He said and did many more things that were not written down.

Here are some verses both OT and NT:

Gn 1:27 - complementarity of sexes reflects God’s inner unity
Gn 2:21-24 - transmission of life through total self-donation - one flesh
Gn 19 - original sin deteriorates to Sodom’s sin, destroyed
Lv18:22 - called abomination, cut off from people (v.29)
Lv 20;13 - both shall be put to death for abominable deed
Rom 1;27 - called unnatural, shameful, and a perversity
1Cor 6:9 - active homosexuals won’t inherit kingdom of God
1Tim 1:9-10 - those who engage in such acts called sinners

Fox:
Being homosexual is not a sin, acting on the impulses is.
Being homosexual is a sickness. Acting on the impulses is “contra natura”, thus is a mortal sin.

I don’t think that people are “born” homosexual, but I do think that certain experiences, events, etc… in someone’s life can make someone have homosexual desires.
Entertaining and/or acting on these desires is a sin. Being proud of such desires is discraceful, but genuinly fighting against them is noble and not a sin.

Honestly, I have known very many men and women who are homosexual. Every single one of them had a traumatic sexual experience as a child. No I don’t think people are born homosexual, but I think it comes from a distrust that is created by someone who is usually a close relative that abuses them in some way shape or form. For instance, there was a young lady I worked with who was unsure if she was gay or not. After talking with her, she confided that her stepdad had been molesting her for years. He told her how beautiful she was so she gained weight until she was obese so he wouldn’t want her, and still he abused her. A male friend of mine, also considers himself gay, had a mother that never abused him sexually per se, but she did include him in sexual talk from the time he was very young. That is just as abusive as the physical act is to children. I think it is sad that people can’t see what is right in front of them. Parents are supposed to protect their children, not harm them. No wonder these people can’t trust, they were violated by those who were supposed to be protecting them.

I think that it is understandable that these friends became who they are. They truly can’t afford to trust in the way required of a marital relationship because they couldn’t trust in their childhood those who were supposed to protect them. To act upon the impulse to engage in a homosexual act though is another story. It is a flawed act to try to compensate for an inability to trust the opposite gender. We as a community need to pray for the healing of their hearts. But, just as a sexual act engaged in by an unmarried person or not with your spouse is a sin, we have to remember that marriage is a holy sacrament between a man, a woman and God, and cannot be cheapened by by those who wish to change laws that have defined marriage for over 2000 years.

Apostle X:
God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve.
Demonstrably false, and insulting to Steve. If God did not create Steve, then Steve would not exist.

Seriously, though. It’s a cliched line. I’m Catholic too, but we aren’t going to get anywhere if we’re just parroting lines that make people roll their eyes. 😛

Bless,
Rob

**2357 **Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity,141 tradition has always declared that "homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered."142 They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.

  • 2358 The number of men and women who have deep-seated homosexual tendencies is not negligible.

By your reasoning, they are constantly in a state of sin. Even if they never “act up”. The CCC talks about tendencies, as well as acts.

  • This inclination, which is objectively disordered, constitutes for most of them a trial. They must be accepted with respect, compassion, and sensitivity.

As is well known, the posts on CAF never show them any other qualities

  • Every sign of unjust discrimination in their regard should be avoided. These persons are called to fulfill God’s will in their lives and, if they are Christians, to unite to the sacrifice of the Lord’s Cross the difficulties they may encounter from their condition.
  • 2359 Homosexual persons are called to chastity. By the virtues of self-mastery that teach them inner freedom, at times by the support of disinterested friendship, by prayer and sacramental grace, they can and should gradually and resolutely approach Christian perfection.
God created Adam and Eve, not Adam and Steve. Humans weren’t meant to be gay,

The problem is, that if other animals are, it seems reasonable enough that some humans will be, too. We aren’t merely animal - but we are animal in part.

we were made to be attracted to the opposite sex in order to be able to reproduce and multiply and all that stuff, not to commit horrible immoral actions.

Some heterosexuals do immoral actions; some homosexuals, do not. So there is little difference between them, morally.

Why did God destroy Sodom and Gomorrah? Because the inhabitants of the cities were constantly committing homosexual acts.

That is going well beyond the text; other mentions of Sodom in the Bible almost always mention other things, such as oppression - not same sex activity. Isaiah 1 is an example: from his text, one could conclude that the Sodomites today include the people who harrass homosexuals (as well as others). OTOH: to take Genesis 19 as talking about gang-rape in order to humiliate strangers, suits the context, near and remote, rather neatly.

The mistake is to assume that same-sex activity always has the same function in all societies: it’s been used to humiliate, to strengthen military cohesion (as at Sparta); for cultic purposes (as in the worship of some gods). It’s not one thing, but several. Otherwise hiring a rent-boy for the night would be the same thing for a man in Victorian London, as forming a relationship between an older & younger man was in fifth-century Athens - where same-sex liaisons were valued above marriage. “Platonic love” was in fact homosexual. If people want to condemn homosexuality, they need to know something about its functions in different societies.
It is not human nature to be gay. People who say that they were born gay are outright lying.
[continued…]

[continued & ended]

That’s very “sensitive” . How do you know they are lying? They do, however, sometimes lie whe asked whether they are homosexual - because of they reception they often meet.

No one is born gay; we are all born straight. Homosexuality is unnatural, simply put.

So is celibacy - but it is an obligation for some. It is in accord with human nature to wish to exercise one’s sexual faculties, & priests have to forgo that. They still have bodies - they don’t become angels.

Catholicism is a perversion, from some POVs. ##
We weren’t created gay, so why should we be?

But some people are - maybe their lives were dull, so they thought they would have fun being called names, being identified as “the elephant in the Church”, and being generally “dissed”. Maybe they’re masochists. Maybe they enjoy being preached at and dumped on.

I’m getting sick of gays complaining that they don’t get treated fairly.

That doesn’t show they have no reason to complain - they may; or they may not.

Maybe they are sick of Catholics complaining about how sinful homosexuals are, and of their “complaining that they don’t get treated fairly”. 🙂 It takes all to make a world - or a democracy. If Catholics want the freedom to express what matters to them, they must also allow others to express what matters to them. And we won’t always like it; that’s a small price to pay for living in a free society. We cannot expect to receive for ourselves what we are not prepared to extend to others ##
Yes, we should be nice to them,

So do it 🙂

but they willingly go against God’s laws and practice homosexuality. Why won’t these people get it? Homosexuality is a sin, they know it, yet they continue to practice it.

Not all believe in the validity of Judeo-Christian ethics. And not all religions frown on homosexuality.

What has this world come to, when homosexuality is accepted as the norm in society?

It hasn’t been - marriage has not been condemned as an unnatural perversion; husbands and wives aren’t forbidden to adopt children. Nor is marriage denounced by most Christian churches - it’s terrible that they can agree in denouncing various things, but are so often unable to agree on what they admire or love. Nor are heterosexual men in danger of being mugged or murdered because they marry women and not men.

Well, it shouldn’t be, that’s obvious, and if we just stand around and not do anything, nothing is going to get done.

It used to be “obvious” that homosexuals should act as combustible material for the various Inquisitions and some of their predecessors - just as it is still obvious to Muslims that they should be put to death: apostasy from Islam, and sodomy, both get those involved the chop - so both Christians & homosexuals have plenty to complain of.

A lot of things can be obvious in one society, that are laughable or repulsive in another. ##

Your quoting, moses and Saint Paul. Fornication is a sin, adultery is a sin, there is a long list.
You stil haven’t explained how the bishops, missed Jesus words in Matthew.

I must disagree with the original poster.
It is not the state of the person that is sinful, but the acting on disordered impulses is. Many Holy men and women in the past would have had this problem and as the CCC teaches, conquering this impulse can lead to holiness.
It is how one identifies themselves is what is important, a man can have homosexual feelings but never identify as homosexual if he takes up the challenge of chastity which is the only choice for him.
Those that identify as homosexual should never be admitted to Holy Orders.
I can’t remember were it is in scripture but pause for a moment on Our Lord talking about some being born eunechs for the sake of the Kingdom, some being made eunuchs for the sake of the Kingdom and some choosing to be eunechs for the sake of the kingdom.
God can make anyone fruitful if they obey his will.
Let us not hasten to Judgement and wait until the Document is released by the Holy Father, I never trust the media!!
By the way can we reclaim the word ‘gay’ back too, it means to be frivously happy let it be that way again
God Bless:love:

It seems to me that most of the editorial comments today use the devil’s terminology when describing issues of the day. One that stands out is the constant use of the word “gay” to describe homosexuals. It is about time that we drop that from our vocabulary. These people are homos, lesbians, etc. My grandchildren are “happy, gay, carefree, innocent, etc”. There is nothing gay about being a homosexual ! These people practice all sorts of sexual perversions and I don’t find that very amusing.

I can’t believe that the writing community has been duped into using this once happy sounding word, which so beautifully describes the children that Our Lord loved so much. Remember, that Our Lord gave this warning to anyone giving scandal to his children, " it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea. " Are we not scandalizing children every time we even give this lifestyle recognition? Think about this the next time you write or speak about _ _ _ Rights, _ _ _ Pride Parades, or _ _ _ Whatever.

Those with homosexual tendencies are children of God and need to be treated in the same manner we treat all of our brothers. However it is wrong to glorify this lifestyle or, for that matter, hi-jack a word that once so beautifully described the sweet and innocent. If we need some way to describe this anomaly then let’s use words like heterosexually impaired or heterosexually challenged. I for one am fed up with what is happening in the world today. It is time for the people of God to stand up.

Sincerely,

Gottle of Geer:

I think that should be Thebes, i.e., the Sacred Band. Lykurgus forbade homosexuality to Spartiate warriors, possibly because of the population implosion which resulted from their nationalistic endogamy (i.e., they only married other Spartans).
“Platonic love” was in fact homosexual.
This was often true, but not always. Platonic Love, as delineated in the Phraedrus and the Symposium, is asexual. Plato condemns lust of the flesh, regardless of whether the object of that lust is male or female, and valorises love of the mind, again regardless of the sex. This line is rather similar to that of Lykurgus.

Apostle X:
I’m sick of people saying “homosexuality as an orientation isn’t a sin, but committing a homosexual act is.” What don’t they understand?
I cannot speak for them, but what I do not understand is the reason why so many Christians gnash their teeth about homosexuality while so many children die of preventable poverty and preventable diseases, ignored by rich Western nations, who claim that the problem is ‘too difficult’ (=‘requires too much actual effort’) to solve. If we had more Christians wanting to follow Mother Teresa, and fewer wanting to emulate the Spanish Inquisition, the world would be a much better place.

Social justice is about defending the oppressed, not oppressing the different.
Humans weren’t meant to be gay, we were made to be attracted to the opposite sex in order to be able to reproduce and multiply and all that stuff, not to commit horrible immoral actions… It is not human nature to be gay. As far as anyone knows, there is no gene for heterosexuality. Thus, we were made to be sexual beings, but no orientation was included: we were not “born straight”.

As for the accusation that those who claim to have been born gay are liars, I would have to ask how you claim to be able to know that they are deliberately attempting to mislead others by their claim. If they do think that they are born gay, then they are not lying when they say it.

I fail to understand why anyone should wish to thus commit slander by accusing someone of a crime which they have not committed, or, indeed, why anyone should wish to revile anyone else in any way, considering the frequent and vehement Scriptural injunctions against such an act.No foul language should come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for needed edification, that it may impart grace to those who hear.
And do not grieve the holy Spirit of God, with which you were sealed for the day of redemption.
All bitterness, fury, anger, shouting, and reviling must be removed from you, along with all malice.
(And) be kind to one another, compassionate, forgiving one another as God has forgiven you in Christ. (Ephesians 4:29-32)
I’m getting sick of gays complaining that they don’t get treated fairly.
I am very sick of Christians condemning their fellow sinners instead of helping the poor and the needy. 😦

I guess that neither of us is getting what we want.

what do you mean that some homosexuals do not commit immoral actions? The very fact that they are homosexual means they are commiting a immoral act.

What as the V.C 2 done to you people? if you think hommosexuality isn’t imoral go join a protestant church.

What Gottle of greer is saying, I think, is that the homosexual is not fornicating…a person can feel that he is homosexual and not act out on that, and the heterosexual is acting out all over the place, and so is immoral

I think homosexuality is a huge cross to bare, I personally know one lady who believes that she is, and has never acted out in any fasion, and is a 45 yr. old virgin living with her parents.
