Okay, bad example. That’s what I get for writing at 2:30am when I haven’t gotten much sleep.

How about this one, then? The Catholic Church uses John 20:19-23 to explain why one must ask a Priest for forgiveness, yet ignores the Lord’s Prayer itself, in which we are taught how to pray, including asking God directly for forgiveness.
The Church was given the authority to bind and loose - period.
We can ask for and receive forgiveness for our sins directly to and from God.
Our mortal sins (those which cut us off from God’s grace - deadly sin) must be discerned by the Church. Jesus didn’t go around giving authority in a loose manner. He told the Apostles that they had the authority to hold sins bound or to loose them - on earth and in heaven (John 20:21-23).

Due to the ambiguity of you saying “that affliction,” I find I must ask you to clarify which thing you are referring to.
You know what I’m referring to - same sex attraction/homosexuality. Unless you’re willing to admit that it is something you can do nothing about on your own - an affliction - you can’t surrender yourself to God’s mercy and help.

Some people are born with physical limitations - some others with intellectual or mental limitations. Some may have emotional afflictions. Yours happens to be an affliction of same sex attraction. I am in no way placing myself on a higher or better realm. I’m simply referring to your problem as an affliction - which it is.

Jesus makes no distinction in type of sin. Sin is sin. All sin cuts mankind off from God. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” This idea that some sins are worse than others is a purely catholic construction that has no basis in the Bible.

From the American Heritage Dictionary:

Affliction
  1. A condition of pain, suffering, or distress.
  2. A cause of pain, suffering, or distress.
My homosexuality does not cause me any pain, suffering, or distress. In point of fact, the only pain, suffering, and distress I have truly experienced in relation to sexual orientation has been in my attempt at heterosexuality and the rape, physical abuse, and emotional abuse I suffered at the hands of my [former] fiance.

Jesus makes no distinction in type of sin. Sin is sin. All sin cuts mankind off from God. “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.” This idea that some sins are worse than others is a purely catholic construction that has no basis in the Bible.
Wrong. You need to read the Scriptures my friend:
1 John 5:16-17 emphatically speaks about the difference between what is known as venial sin (or minor sin) and mortal sin (deadly sin):

*"If anyone sees his brother sinning, if the sin is not deadly, he should pray to God and he will give him life. This is only for those whose sin is not deadly. There is such a thing as deadly sin, about which I do not say that you should pray. *
All wrongdoing is sin, but there is sin that is not deadly."
Whereas venial sin damages our relationship with God - mortal sin severs it.

St. Paul further drives home this point in Hebrews 10:26-27 when he says:

***"If we sin deliberately after receiving knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains sacrifice for sins **but a fearful prospect of judgment and a flaming fire that is going to consume the adversaries. *

As for your flawed understanding of Paul’s words in Romans 3:10, 23:
*“There is no one righteous, not even one; For there is no distinction; all have sinned and are deprived of the glory of God.” *
Is that so?
How about babies or toddlers below the age of reason? What about those who are mentally challenged and may not have full use of their intellect and will? What about Jesus? St. Paul is speaking about those who trust in the Mosaic Law for their salvation.
In this passage, St. Paul is actually quoting Psalm 14, where it says, "The fool says in his heart, ‘There is no God. They are corrupt…there is none that does good.’” **
St. Paul
was using inclusive **language. This would be similar to somebody saying that “everybody in town” came to the festival last year. He is referring to the mass of mankind.
**This is one of the most abused, misused and misunderstood passages by non-Catholics to try and prove or disprove a number of Catholic teachings. **
St. Paul is distinguishing sinners not the types of sin.

**You yourself admitted that being a homosexual has caused you emotional pain and uncertainty. You even prayed for a man to com into your life only to come to the realization that it was not for you.

Whether you want to admit it or not - it IS an affliction. But here I am trying to get a point accross to somebody who labels themselves as a “Christian-Wiccan”.
Sorry - but you can’t be both. You cannot serve 2 masters.
What you truly suffer from is cafeteria-Christianity where you pick and choose what you want to believe and leave the rest behind.

I’m not sure which translation you’re using, but the NKJV says this “If anyone sees his brother sinning a sin which does not lead to death, he will ask, and He will give him life for those who commit sin not leading to death. There is a sin leading to death. I do not say that he should pray about that.”

The New Living Translation says “If you see any Christian sinning in a way that does not lead to death, you should pray, and God will give that person life. But there is a sin that leads to death, and I am not saying you should pray for those who commit it. Every wrong is sin, but not all sin leads to death.”

Personally, I would read this as talking about suicide.

***"If we sin deliberately after receiving knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains sacrifice for sins ***but a fearful prospect of judgment and a flaming fire that is going to consume the adversaries.
I do not deliberately sin as I do not believe that my homosexuality is a sin. As far as I am aware, I am not sinning.

Romans 3:21-26
But now apart from law a righteousness of God has been revealed, being witnessed to by the law and the prophets, a righteousness furthermore of God through faith in Jesus Christ to all and upon all the ones believing. For there is not a difference; for all sinned and are lacking of the glory of God, being justified as a gift by His grace through the redemption in Christ Jesus, whom God set forth as a propitiation through faith in His blood, for a demonstration of His righteousness through the passing of the sins having previously occurred, in the forbearance of God, for a demonstration of His righteousness in the now season, that He might be righteous and declaring righteous the one who has faith in Jesus.****

**You *yourself ***admitted that being a homosexual has caused you emotional pain and uncertainty. You even prayed for a man to com into your life only to come to the realization that it was not for you.
The emotional pain and uncertainty I suffered was at the hands of those who would persecute me for what I am, what I cannot be other than. I have always been most full of joy when I am with a girl that I love, even through the persecution. But even the most steadfast mountain can be worn down over time. I grew weary of the persecution that I suffered at the hands of my own brothers and sisters in Christ. I grew weary of the abuse I suffered from my own father when he was forced to resign and find a new pastorate because of his lesbian daughter.

I prayed for a man to come into my life and be a man I could love despite my homosexuality because I felt that if I could not put an end to the persecution, I would put an end to my own life. I never asked God to make me straight. I asked him for a man I could love regardless of my being a lesbian, and the results have taught me that I have to be who I am, period. I cannot change who I am to satisfy bigots, and I must trust in God to protect me from those bigots.
Whether you want to admit it or not - it IS an affliction. But here I am trying to get a point accross to somebody who labels themselves as a “Christian-Wiccan”.

I serve only one master. God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit, the Blessed Trinity.

No you don’t - you also claim to be Wiccan which worships a multitude of gods and goddesses. Either you are what you claim to be or you have no idea what Wicca is.

This is absolutely ludicrous. Where on earth do you get this bizarre interpretation?
I do not deliberately sin as I do not believe that my homosexuality is a sin. As far as I am aware, I am not sinning.
Nobody accused you of engaging in homosexual sin. I don’t know where you’re getting that.🤷

Ummm . . . what’s your point here.
I was merely pointing out that you wrongly used to show that sin has no variations and that this teaching is “a purely catholic construction that has no basis in the Bible”.
You’re wrong - dead wrong. 1 John 5:16-17 has nothing to do with suicide. In fact, that is really doing acrobatics with the Scriptures and not one Protestant theologian that I’ve ever read on the subject agrees with you.

No you don’t - you also claim to be Wiccan which worships a multitude of gods and goddesses. Either you are what you claim to be or you have no idea what Wicca is.
Actually, you’re the one unaware of what Wicca is. Wiccans worship a singular deity that is omnipotent, omniscient, omnipresent, omnitemporal, etc. Because such infinite capacity is difficult for the human mind to conceptualize, many Wiccans divide the singular deity into aspects that are treated as separate while still being the same deity. The initial division is into a concept of a God representing masculine traits and a Goddess representing feminine traits. These two concepts can be further divided into specific aspects such as love and sex being represented by Aphrodite, Wisdom being represented by Athena, and fertility/motherly love being represented by Bast. There is, however, no requirement to make such divisions into aspects if one is fully capable of encompassing the whole of the singular omni-etc entity in one’s beliefs.

Christian-Wicca is a belief system that differs from Wicca in that we specifically beliefe that singular omni-etc deity to be “God” aka “Yahweh” aka “The Lord Will Provide” aka “Jesus Christ” aka “Holy Spirit” aka “The Holy Trinity,” and accept Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior, just like any other Christian.

We pray to God for the power to perform our “spells,” which are also known as “miracles.” We depend upon God and we trust in God to guide us and keep us from deception, so that we may use the power he grants us to do his will here on Earth.
Ummm . . . what’s your point here.

Many scholars believe it refers to spiritual death, yes. However, it also states there is one sin that causes such death. That one sin, as I understand it, would be complete and total rejection of God.

I do not reject God. I reject the bigotry of those humans who would forbid me basic human rights.

As for sin all being equal in God’s eyes?

James 2:10
And the person who keeps all of the laws except one is as guilty as the person who has broken all of God’s laws.

Excuse me but what does a priest eating shellfish have to do with anything? We are not under the Mosaic dietary laws (Acts 10:11-15).

The Catholic Church doesn’t pick and choose. The Catholic Churcvh is the one and only Church set up - established by our Lord Jesus christ (Matt. 16:15-19).

She is the only Church that he gave full authority to bind and loose in heaven and earth (Matt. 1815-18, John 16:13-15, John 20:21-13).

The New Testament was written, compiled and finally declared canon by the Catholic Church. Anything less - is cafeteria-styled Christianity.

As for your situation - I feel for you and pray for anybody with that affliction. I pray for my afflictions - none of us is perfect.

You are right - God DOES love you as he loves us all and you should continue to lean on him and seek his guidance because it is there - in Him - that you will find peace.

God bless.
Excuse me…isn’t your view of homosexuality in the Mosaic laws? Oh…so you’re trying to say God feels that love is less important than the food we eat? Riggghhhttttt…

Also, I don’t know how the Christian-Wiccan thing came in. That puzzles me, but whatever. I personally believe magic is evil whether it’s white, black or blue or whatever color of the rainbow. My main reason is that magic is useless. And God has power over everything so spells to control things are stupid because God has control over everything, even candles and spell books. Anyway…I’m gay, and my adoptive parents are gay. we are all Catholic. I love God with all my heart, soul, and mind. I go to church every weekend (unless I’m dying or it is literally impossible to go). I try my best to be the best I can, and I try to show people Jesus everyday in the way I act, speak, and love. I try to love even though it’s hard, and i’m a teenager, God has gotten me through so much (homelessness, abuse, hurricanes, when my gramma left me at school and never came back). And these bad things didn’t make me gay (some people say things make you gay). I’ve known I was gay since I was little, before life went downhill. The hardships have made me stronger, and I have my crosses to bare. I’m Catholic. I’m a Christian. I love God. Jesus is m savior. And I’m still gay. And I’m gonna get married. And I’m gonna adopt children. I’m pro-life. I’m fiscally conservative and socially liberal. And I’m only 15 and I have a life that God has given me, and I’m going to live it. And I’m never going to stop loving God. A while ago, my past foster sister and brother told me I’m going to hell because you can’t be gay and Christian. I did take it to heart but I realized she was wrong. That’s the evil of the world, trying to make me reprobate and betray God. Not gonna happen! Sorry. I know that alot of you won’t agree with me, but hey. You were called to your own lives and have your beliefs. Now, the Bible is up for interpretation, I guess. Also, the Bible never said homosexual sex was a sin, it’s listed under what makes you unclean. It’s true, it’s in it. With Jesus’ sacrifice, and when we are saved, we are no longer bound by that Mosaic law, but we have to follow God’s law and Jesus’ law. And NO, Jesus didn;t only disband the dietary codes. Take it or leave it, whatever. I’m going to try to be the best person I can be, and follow God’s commandments and listen to the Holy Spirit. Peace!

PS, of course, I don’t know my future, so I might not get married or have children. I’m putting that out there because people on these forums sometimes nit pick things. I would also like to say that because of God, my life has gotten much better, and I love Him for everything and i’m so thankful. I’m also thankful for Jesus because without His love and sacrifice, I wouldn’t even have the chance of knowing God, living in the generation of Britney Spears; Womanizer video (that my little 8 year old cousins try to immitate, it makes me sick).

Please read the New Testament. I would suggest starting with Romans 1:22-32 which says the following:
…for although they knew God they did not honor him as God or give thanks to him, but they became futile in their thinking and their senseless minds were darkened. Claiming to be wise, they became fools, and exchanged the glory of the immortal God for images resembling mortal man or birds or animals or reptiles. Therefore God gave them up in the lusts of their hearts to impurity, to the dishonoring of their bodies among themselves, because they exchanged the truth about God for a lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed for ever! Amen. ** For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error. **And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct. They were filled with all manner of wickedness, evil, covetousness, malice. Full of envy, murder, strife, deceit, malignity, they are gossips, slanderers, haters of God, insolent, haughty, boastful, inventors of evil, disobedient to parents, foolish, faithless, heartless, ruthless. Though they know God’s decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them.
Homosexual acts are condemned in both the Old and New Testaments.

Please read the New Testament. I would suggest starting with Romans 1:22-32 which says the following:

Homosexual acts are condemned in both the Old and New Testaments.
The problem with Romans 1:22-32 is that the actual sin is lustful, indiscriminate sex, not homosexuality. Homosexuality =/= indiscriminate sex.

Nonsense. Do yourself a favor. Quit making it up as you go. Verse 26 and 27 say the following:
Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error.
This is a clear condemnation of homosexual acts and anyone using common sense can see that.

Try starting with verse 24.

“Therefore God also gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the creator, who is blessed to the ages, Amen.”

The people were lusting after the creation of God. They were lusting for physical pleasure, of any kind, indiscriminately.

Verses 26 and 27 are the "such as . . . " verses. They are the “etc., etc., etc.” They are merely examples of how they were performing indiscriminate sexual acts.

Also, the only other mention of “unnatural acts” for women that I have found in the Bible are in the Old Testament where it speaks of bestiality. Based on this, it is my understanding that the women referred to in Romans 1 were performing acts of bestiality, not acts of homosexuality.

Wicca is a neopagan religion based on nature worship. It is NOT of God.
There is only ONE way to heaven and that is through our Lord Jesus Christ - NOT paganism. To hold this belief is to pervert the Gospel.

Many scholars believe it refers to spiritual death, yes. However, it also states there is one sin that causes such death. That one sin, as I understand it, would be complete and total rejection of God.

James 2:10

HUH??
You’re confusing deadly sin mentioned in 1 John 5:16-17 with sin against the Holy Spirit (Matthew 12:31-32, Mark 3:28-29) which is final impenitence.
That’s why in the Mosaic Law some sins called for death and some called for lesser punishments.

Excuse me…isn’t your view of homosexuality in the Mosaic laws? Oh…so you’re trying to say God feels that love is less important than the food we eat? Riggghhhttttt…
You are totally confused as to what Christianity is.
Homosexual sin is spoken against in both the Old AND New Testaments.

We don’t follow the ritual and dietary parts of the Mosaic Law because Jesus fulfilled that. However, we are still bound by the Moral Laws under the Old Covenant.
For example - do you think the 10 Commandments are null and void?
ABSOLUTELY not. You need to study up on your faith.

Try starting with verse 24.

“Therefore God also gave them over in the lusts of their hearts to uncleanness, to dishonor their bodies among themselves, who exchanged the truth of God for the lie and worshiped and served the creature rather than the creator, who is blessed to the ages, Amen.”

Do you honestly think that the homosexual act, which the Scriptures call and abomination (Lev. 18:22, 20:13) is less-abominable simply because we are not living in the Old Testament times? Is that what you really believe? **
God is eternal and whatever was an abomination to him thousands of years ago is STILL an abomination to him and always will be.

Rom.** 1:26–28, 32**** says:**
"For this reason God gave them up to dishonorable passions. Their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural, and the men likewise gave up natural relations with women and were consumed with passion for one another, men committing shameless acts with men and receiving in their own persons the due penalty for their error. And since they did not see fit to acknowledge God, God gave them up to a base mind and to improper conduct. . . . Though they know God’s decree that those who do such things deserve to die, they not only do them but approve those who practice them".

You’re playing games with the truth here. This is speaking of homosexual sin.
Are you honestly trying to say that male homosexual sex (explicitly spoken of here) is wrong but NOT female homosexual sex? Is that what you’re trying to make us believe?
This is complete hogwash and you know it.

**If you turn a blind eye to God – he will turn a blind eye to you. **
You are living the lie that is moral relativism.

Anyway…I’m gay, and my adoptive parents are gay. we are all Catholic. I love God with all my heart, soul, and mind.
Why be in the Catholic Church if you refuse to accept what it teaches?

The Bible says homosexual acts only make you unclean? Well, Revelation 21:27 says that nothing unclean will enter Heaven.
