I’m not here to judge you, just to point you in the right direction by telling you the truth. There was a time I was involved in a relationship with the same sex when I knew it was wrong. I felt guilty all the time. I was trying to get my needs met my own way instead of turning to God to meet them, which didn’t work. The relationship was terribly painful and it went nowhere. I learned why God said to stay away from this sin (or any sin) since it hurt me and the other person emotionally and spiritually.

Blessings on your journey.

Peace
I sorry you were hurt. I don’t feel guilty for being who I am though, and I think that is where the difference in our point of view comes from. I hope God can help us both for the Truth He has for each of us.

Okay, but don’t you take into account what God says in holy scripture about fornication and homosexuality even if you are in a loving relationship? If you’re not married, it’s sin.

Still working that out for myself. That’s the whole idea lol

It really takes a conviction from the Holy Spirit as to the right and wrong of it. If we have the Holy Spirit within us, we’ll know, He will convict our heart. Ask Him for the Holy Spirit’s wisdom about it if you’re searching…

Will pray for you.

Ladybri and Scrapula,

Just about everyone I know, Catholic, Protestant, Atheist… thinks as follows.

If a couple love each other faithfully, if they care about each other, if they support each other, if their love helps them to be better people and hence enhances the lives of those about them THEN IT DOES NOT MATTER ONE JOT whether the couple are of the same sex or of opposite sex.

The Catholic church proclaims a God of Love but denies that positive, wonderful love of many same sex couples. For example, my daugher and partner, together for 22 years! I think that to call it an ‘abomination’ is actually a grave sin!

Why does the Church do this? Because gay sex, they say, frustrates the purpose of sex which is reproduction.

But the main purpose of sex for most people is to express love. The Church accepts that this is fine for infertile couples - why not for gays too? The church is over-emphasises the physical here.
Secondly gay sex ‘frustrates the reproductive function of sex’ and it also expresses physically the love that two gay people have for each other and is wonderful for them. Why does the first consideration ‘trump’ the second. Why is it the more important of the two?

Ladybri - it would be nice if you answered the points I have made here.
Scapula - the problem lies not with you but with your church. Good luck to you!

God has helped me fully realize who I am by coming out and accepting that I’m gay. This is not an issue between me and a support group, it’s between myself and God and honestly I really think God could care less.

I see what you were trying to say with your example, but staying on that issue, you’re still implying I have to choose something that isn’t me. That’s not right. Even my mom said “I know you’ll make the right decision” when I came out to her which I just didn’t get. I don’t understand why straight people think there is a decision involved. There’s not.
YES…It is between YOU and GOD.

People need to realize that.

It’s not every religious persons job to go around “evangelizing”.

What people do in the privacy of their bedroom is NOBODIES business but there own.

Congratulations for making that leap:thumbsup:

God bless you.

Guess you didn’t read my previous post, see below.

Yes, we must work out our own salvation, but we are called to evangelize and tell others about God. I heard of a girl once whose family didn’t go to church. For years she didn’t know about God, but eventually someone told her about him, invited her to church, and she came to know and love God. She said she wished someone had told her about Him a long time ago.

You can tell people about God by handing out free Bibles and inviting them to your church.

If you call them on their sin right from the jump…You’ll scare them away.

I know from experience^^^^^…If you scare them away with what YOU say…How will God feel about that?

You can tell people about God…But that persons sins and personal life is frankly none of your business.

It is between GOD and THEM…You are NOT God…So it’s not about you.

I would never tell them that right away. I would have to befriend a person first, and after a long time went by, if I had the right opportunity, would I tell them first about God and then the other where appropriate.

Something that comes to my mind regarding my being gay and Catholic is St. Francis’ saying:
“Always preach the Gospel, and when necessary, use words”

My non-Catholic friends (which is all of them basically) know I’m a serious and strongly believing Catholic, they also know I’m gay. I don’t think that my gayness for one second takes anything away from the fact that they primarily define me as a religious Catholic Christian. The example of the Good News comes from you as a whole person. Not me as a gay.

“The example of the Good News comes from you as a whole person”.

True, a person who acts in true faith of God.

Your heart has to be convicted to see the truth that acting out in that way is wrong. The Holy Spirit has convicted me of things over time, maybe he will you also, just like our friend phooie.

Blessings

So many different types of love…let’s see there’s homosexual, erotic, agape, friendship. No, I wouldn’t say they all lead us to the truth…but of these, I’d say agape and friendship love do!
Eh? :ehh::ehh::ehh:

There four words in Koine Greek that Christians generally discuss when the subject of love comes up. The Holy Father is his Deus Caritas Est spoke on this at length. None of the words (eros, storge, phileo, agape) can be translated to “homosexual.” Actually, Koine Greek has no word for “homosexual,” St. Paul had to use a compound word when he wrote to the Corinthians.

At any rate, to be technical, there is nothing wrong with homosexual love when the words are defined properly. Love between members of the same sex is perfectly acceptable so long as it’s phileo (brother/friend love) and no eros (erotic) is present. It can be problematic if eros gets involved, but even there possibilities for growth occur by developing phileo to the point that eros just fades into a distant memory. Been there, done that and grew because of it!

That’s great, I’m glad you grew out of if. The same happened to me. After I ended a similar relationship, we became friends.

However, there is something wrong with homo"sexual" love, sexual here meaning having sex between two people of the same gender. We should probably call love between members of the same sex (if it is a healthy love, not emotionally dependent love), brotherly love, not homosexual love implying the above.

Scipture also says…

“Love thy neighbor”… Lev.19:18…Mark 12:31
“Love thy enemy”…Mark 16:16
“Judge not, that ye be not judged.” …Matt 7:1
“Love one another”…John 13:34
“Let your love be genuine”…Romans 12:9
“Love is a good thing”…1 Cor 8:1
“Do all things with love”…1 Cor 16:14
“Let brotherly love continue”…Hebrews 13:1
“By love serve one another.” Galations 5:13

“Let us not love in word, neither in tongue; but in deed and in truth.” 1 John 3:18

“Don’t fight, be humble, and look after the needs of others”…Philp. 2:3-4

People need love^^^

God was pretty clear that we should LOVE one another REGARDLESS.
What is your definition of LOVE? How do you understand "LOVE one another to mean? Where does sex come in?

🙂

That’s specifically why I defined terms the way I did (eros vs. phileo). Then again, I don’t define the word homosexual as exclusively meaning sex between members of the same gender. The word is an adjective that literally means “same-sex” (break the word down homo = same, sexual = sex). The fact that the word is an adjective also means that it shouldn’t be used as a noun (which I’ve noticed a lot of people do).

Homosexual activity/sex = bad
Homosexual love = not bad

See the difference?

Yes, I agree. It’s just that the term homosexual is used mostly to define people or behavior of two people of the same sex having sex with one another.

An offer:

The Lord has done so many wonderful things in my life.

“I have seen the Lord, I proclaim Him to you!”

You can have His spirit in your life also.

Peace!

QUOTE=031064;6440144]The logical end is that the homosexual would act as a supplementary caregiver to their siblings offspring and would in so doing benefit the race as a whole.
This is just ridiculous!!! Granted a man that has homosexual tendencies should either remain celibate or seek guidance from the church as to how to handle his tendencies. The act of being homosexual is not going to supplement the siblings offspring for crying out loud! Are you telling me that by having sex with a man you are able to better benefit your sisters children???

Also, if God is so immensely foresighted than why would he ‘doom’ certain well-meaning people to this path? It is statistically correlated that with each older brother a man has he is 27-33% more likely to be homosexual, therefore if you have 4 older brothers you are virtually guaranteed to be gay (this is called the Fraternal Birth Order effect and is the most reliable method of predicting bi and homosexuality.) How are homosexuals supposed to feel close to a God who dooms them to sin as a result of their place in male birth order? That’s tremendously just! Mind you I suppose given the history with genocide, acceptance of slavery etc. we’re not really talking about a historically just being. Why should we be forced to accept a priori that all of the things in the bible are simply and unquestionably true?
Christians accept the inerrancy of the Bible. The Church teaches the inerrancy of the Bible. As to whether God is “just,” please, read the Book of Job.

By evolutionary standards, homosexuality is “wrong.” It does not contribute to the survival of the species. Natural selection makes a left turn with the practice of homosexuality.

Please, give references for your figures on hereditary factors of homosexuality. I once read that homosexuality was common in other animals. The “study” was conducted by a practicing homosexual to prove his point–obviously invalid. Other animals may practice same-sex bonding, but I have never heard of a valid study that demontrates homosexual “coitus” by other animals. Because a dog jumps on my leg and demonstrates sexual desire and movements, does not mean that the dog will naturally practice dog-human “coitus.”

As for some people being more prone to homosexuality than others. Some are more prone to drunkeness, to lasciviousness, to pedophilia, etc. etc. etc. All people have their own temptations to resist. Homosexuality is another temptation. God and the Church do not single out homosexuality as the only sin, or the only grievous sin, or a sin past redemption. The practice of homosexuality is a sin because it goes against the order of creation. Hmmmm…I wonder why it’s called a disordered passion?

Yeah, Cinette! That’s the crux of the issue right there!

Here is a great link explaining an update on the gay gene theory. This particular article doesn’t go into the particular environmental causes, but there are many predisposing environmental factors that play into the homoemotional condition. Believe me, I know.

I just want to point out the irony here notably because waste is also excreted from both of the sexual organs used in heterosexual sex.
