No, it’s very consistent with Church teaching.

2357 Homosexuality refers to relations between men or between women who experience an exclusive or predominant sexual attraction toward persons of the same sex. It has taken a great variety of forms through the centuries and in different cultures. Its psychological genesis remains largely unexplained. Basing itself on Sacred Scripture, which presents homosexual acts as acts of grave depravity, tradition has always declared that “homosexual acts are intrinsically disordered.” They are contrary to the natural law. They close the sexual act to the gift of life. They do not proceed from a genuine affective and sexual complementarity. Under no circumstances can they be approved.
Psychological bases are not biological or genetic bases, Corki.

The church also says the Bible is free from error. (Which states homosexuality is a sin, and subsequently so does the catechism, however the catechism itself isn’t infallible).

There are also requirements for what the pop says the be infallible, and from reading the interview, not all of the requirements were met.

Again, I could be wrong.
The Bible also says to be perfect give all you’re money to the poor and follow Jesus. Why can’t you do that?

References?

Your last sentence suggests an incomplete understanding of the Church (not that anybody understands it fully). If something is a sin, not even the Pope can make it nonsin.

Francis said in an interview that the church could be open to same-sex civil unions, a view he had first voiced as archbishop of Buenos Aires. The pope reiterated the church’s teaching that a “marriage is between a man and a woman” but argued that on civil unions, “we have to look at different cases and evaluate them in their variety

Times are changing sir. Pope Francis has expressed openness to allowing civil unions. I urge you to respect his infalliability and teaching on church law. I do, and i know he will make it not a sin
Are you a confirmed Catholic?

I’ve never seen the “give all your money to the poor” verse, but I try my very best each and every day to follow Jesus. Who are you to judge?

21Jesus said to him, "If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow Me

Jesus has given you instructions on how to be complete. Why can’t you do this and follow him?

Do you do this? I do donate quite often to charities, but I don’t have a steady source of income either.

I apologize i should not have made personal attacks. I was intentionally using that verse out of context to bolster my arguement.

I did not realize you were converting. I don’t want to say anything that may give you second thoughts. Once again my apologies

It’s quite alright. What good’s a forum if you cant discuss things with one another, am I right? 🙂

True. I’m just very confused on the whole ssa issue. I don’t think their should be gay marriage, but i think their should be a much bigger role for them in our church other then celibacy.

If they can’t get married, then the only option is celibacy. Celibacy is by definition the lifelong state of non-marriage.

And no non-marriage sexual relationship is nonsinful.

I don’t know, I hadn’t formed much of an opinion on the subject until recently, and I have no right to judge anyone on their sexuality or anything similar, so, still learning.

I don’t think anybody is judging, but just standing by what the Church has always taught.

No. But I don’t cherrypick the bible for a single verse on homosexuality in the old testament. That verse by the way is inconsistent with current church teaching.
If you truly believe in God you wold have done that and guaranteed your spot in heaven.
Your Bible exegesis is amazing! Imagine, while other scholars have spent entire theses on the passage, you solve it all in one little blub on Catholic Answers! Congrats!

As a non-Catholic (you are “unconfirmed” yes?) I would ask that you also avoid cherry-picking from the Holy Father’s words, some of which have been taking out of context.

Until the Pope issues a formal statement about the matter - not some off the cuff remarks to journalists on an airplane - I’d drop the matter and trust in the teachings of the Catholic Church. And if this is what is preventing you from joining the Church, I am sorry.

Some resist the Church’s teachings on free will, faith, authority of Scripture, or sacraments. But others are ready to die on the hill of How To Best Use Private Parts.

Explain his quotes then. The Pope is infalliable and head of the church. You’re comments are directly contracdicting him.
No, the Pope is not infallible.

The Pope can issue a statement ex cathedra, and that statement would be considered infallible. But not everything that the Pope says is considered infallible just because he says it. Otherwise, we’d have an official “best” ice cream flavor, or an official car brand (Fiat). 🤷

Be careful with posting comments and Church teachings you don’t fully understand.

You are quite right, friend, and I agree 100% with church teaching on the matter.

This shows your complete ignorance of the Catholic Faith…

Once Baptized Catholic, Always a Catholic no matter what.

You can try and denegrate my faith, but I am just as Catholic as you are buddy.

The Holy Father was not suggesting that men who are homosexuals should be allowed to be priests. If he was, then the current restriction would have been lifted a long time ago. This matter of homosexuals being allowed to be ordained is not a teaching of the faith, so it does not fall under the infallibility of the Holy Father.

Homosexuals can do many things in the Church as single laymen. They can teach catechesis, be ushers, be sacristans, work at a Catholic apostolate, &c. It isn’t like you don’t matter at all to the Church unless you are a religious or married.

Once baptized you are permenently Catholic correct?
