Awhile ago I remember reading a Catholic magazine (not sure of the name), and it had an article about a Catholic man who was homosexual. He stated that he married a woman and had children and that he was so happy about the decision to live by God’s word. I’m not sure if he said God’s word or not, but something along that line. I’m not sure if the woman he married knew he was homosexual or not, but, is that wrong for a homosexual to marry a woman even though they are attracted to the opposite sex? I don’t see anything wrong with it i guess, but just the fact that they might be marrying someone they don’t really love.

I would not infer that he did not love his wife. Many people have same-sex attractions at some point in their life and marry anyway and live out holy lives just fine. Having a same-sex attraction is not sinful. Acting on that attraction is.

You’re right, I know that. But, do you not think that it isn’t necessary to be attracted to whomever you marry than?

It depends what you mean. It is sinful to lust for anyone expect your spouse. And depending on what “lust” means to you, that could be sinful even if it is for your spouse. Marital relations must be unitive and procreative, and the value of your husband or wife should not be reduced to sexual attractiveness.

I don’t mean lust, just attraction to their looks, personality, “chemistry”, etc.

There are other types of attraction than sexual attraction.

Please redefine your use of the term homosexual.

Chaste same sex attracted people are not homosexuals.

A homosexual is a SSA person who rejects chastity and instead embraces the homosexual lifestyle by committing man on man sexual acts or female on female sexual acts.

I read somewhere that like 50% of all priests were gay. I respect their life of chastity and to God.

Humans really like one size fits all labels, don’t we?

Doesn’t apply here. IMO same sex attraction is a spectrum, not a binary descriptor. Someone with a deep seated SSA to the point where there is no sexual attraction to people of the opposite sex would (IMO) be doing a disservice to a spouse in marriage.

On the other hand I have a friend who is married (20 years) with 5 kids who at one time in his life would have called himself ‘bisexual’ (though people used that term less back then). He made a choice to stick to the righteous path and has succeeded.

It all depends on the individual. If the SSA is not deep rooted, a normal marriage might eventually be possible. If it is deep rooted and persistant it may not.

This doesn’t mean the person can’t be holy though. I’ll wager we all have some disordered inclinations we wish we didn’t…

If the person feels attraction to both sexes, then that person is bisexual. If a “homosexual” feels attraction, even a little, to the opposite sex, then they are not a homosexual, but are bisexual. There’s preferences, but that’s beside the point.

What’s considered “acting upon” the attraction?

Exactly what it sounds like: entering into romantic and/or sexual relationships with members of the same sex.

A lot of women marry men not because of attraction, but because of financial security, status, or a pre-arranged marriage. It can and does work. Every situation is different, of course.
So this man may have not been sexually attracted to her (or maybe he was) but they could have had other things in common that attracted them towards one another and made a good match.

Most people seem to think that homosexuals are unable to perform sexually with a member of the opposite sex. This is untrue, for the most part.
The fact is that many, many homosexuals and bisexuals marry members of the opposite sex with success. Some of them may suffer mightily with SSA and others adjust quite well. However, life is not perfect. There are times when straights also have a terrible time with infidelity and all its temptations. So there can be problems with anyone’s sexuality at times!
The homosexuals and bisexuals that I personally know who “went straight” are glad they did. They now have spouses and families they cherish.
I think anything is possible with God’s help!

Maybe the author of the article (or his source) was gay. Gay people think that animals are gay too. Gay people who belive in their “gayhoodness” don’t think “straight” anymore. They can be argumentative, sound convincing though.

:rotfl:

But where did that statistic come from?
