Hello.

I’m as sinful as the next person, but what I want to
know is:

Who’s the sinner who ripped off my side-view mirror,
so I don’t even have one to glue back on ? 😃
[their need for a sideview mirror was apparantly
greater than mine, in their view, no pun intended.]

Surely I’m a sinner. That’s why I need God.

It cost me well over 100 dollars to replace it. Arrggghhhh.

I’ve been hanging out here for a few months. On the non-catholic forum but also a few others. Because I am not a practicing Catholic, there are lots of threads I refrain from posting on, because I don’t feel it is fair to compromise anyone’s beliefs by offering a non-catholic opinion on some issues.

But lately a few threads have got me wondering about honesty and openess. When someone asks a question that could be “revealing” about whether or not someone is a “good” Catholic, very often all the answers are REALLY SUPER PERFECT CATHOLIC…

where have all the humans gone?
I think I know what you mean. It is that HOLIER THAN THOU attitude.

You mean if I drive to Florida my rear view mirror will begin to loosen and fall off after I cross the state line? :whacky: I leave tomorrow for P’cola

Just kidding! 👋

Yes I I have rosary and prayer rope I carry everyday with me. I try to pray with one each day. I do say morning and night prayers. Yes my house has a few crucifixes and religious pictures, my house has a prayer room.

I am not a perfect follower of Christ, I sin and with God grace I hope to minimise it. If I didn’t have God I’d be in a world of misery. I need Him.

My understanding is the forum is for discussion. the confessional is better place for , well, confession. i doubt most people here think of themselves as perfectly holy and righteous( that is unless some are from the independent church across the street from my house.) Even a murderer can tell you that murder is wrong, his own failings don’t disqualify the truth, and it doesn’t mean he is trying to negate his own guilt because he didn’t inform us of a previous incarceration for his crime.

I’m not accusing anyone of being a hypocrite, just wondering why so shiny a face all the time.

Why be so quick to judge other’s sincerity on these boards? Of course we are all sinners…we are human after all.

Perhaps being a member of the Church that Jesus Christ founded and the fullness of that Truth has brought us to an inner joy that reveals itself through the posts on this forum.

Does everyone here really have a rosary or saint medal hanging from their rear view mirror and no one has “secular” stuff?
Yes. I really do have a rosary hanging from my rear view mirror. 🙂

Like is there really no one here who has resorted to birth control who is willing to own up to it for the sake of discussion with someone who is all tied in knots over a horrible situation? Does everyone here really have a rosary or saint medal hanging from their rear view mirror and no one has “secular” stuff?

Are you really all that good? Or, do you refrain from sharing who you really are so as not to be an occasion for sin and doubt for others? I can see the good of that, but wow, sometimes I feel like I stumbled into Catholic Oggo Boggo land.

cheddar…whistling, where have all the humans gone?
I am very flawed and human and posted about it quite a bit (some may say too much). Some of the church’s teachings I do struggle with as well. The reason I usually do not post those points of view, I find more and more that the church’s teaching have been correct, and it’s my rebellious feelings towards those teachings that have been wrong.

After “doing it (living my life) my way” for years with dismal failure the result, I am now trying to live according to the Catholic Church’s teachings with God’s grace and help. It’s hard to argue and cooperate at the same time, so instead of posting my dissention against one of the church’s teachings I find diffucult, I try to read the reasoning behind those teachings with an open mind and heart.

No rosary on the rear-view - it’s a safety hazard. 😉 But, I do have one in my purse, which is a good thing, because wherever I am, there also is my purse - all 30 pounds of it. I have a collection of election bumper stickers on my truck - soon to be replaced by pro-life stickers.

I do wear a medal inside my shirt - but it is for my remembrance and instruction, not a badge to tell others how pious I am. I barely know the meanings of “piety” or “mercy,” but whether in real life or on these forums, I try to practice. 🙂

I am a sinner - a mourning, grieving penitent sinner, but a sinner, nonetheless.

I have trouble keeping my temper in political discussions, so I stay away from that forum. Keeping myself away from the near occasion of sin, because I’m not strong enough to keep from spouting off when I shouldn’t and in ways that I shouldn’t. That is the only way in which I can ensure the practice of charity, at this point. 😉

In prayer, again,* practice* - I started praying first for my children and husband, then my family, friends, our Armed Forces, then others’ prayer requests, our Church leaders and that was all easy enough… but then… oh dear… Jesus wanted me to pray for my enemies, too.

Uggghhhhhh… it was very difficult the first few weeks to pray for my enemies - I had to say every day, “Jesus, you know my heart and you know I am only doing this because you told me to. Please help me pray with sincerity and faith as I practice.”

Today, it’s easy to pray for them - but it didn’t happen through my efforts, it happened only because the Holy Spirit has given me the words and the Lord has given me faith in the words. I know they are not mine - all I had to do was open the door and the prayers came.

Through practice, I’ve forgiven someone that I thought I never would forgive. That, alone, is a miracle. This was a grievous wrong done against me and I nursed that grudge and anger and hurt for more than 30 years, but today, by the grace of God, it is GONE and in it’s place, peace in the situation.

I am not a super-good anything. But, I will say that one of the things that has always attracted me about this Church is that the practicing Catholics I have known well are noticeably faithful, kind, generous and happy. So if you’re seeing super good people here, it’s entirely possible that they are just as good in real life as they appear to be on this board.

 I don’t go in for miraculous medals and scapulars, I carry a chotki in my pocket.
What the heck is a “CHOTKI ??”

I just switched the medal above the rear view mirror to a Sacred Heart medal for June!

lol cheddarsox if you look at my posts you can tell im far from perfect!

I never cover up, I know I’m not the best catholic in the world! and i’m not trying to impress anyone here either. i’m not that sort of person, I admit to my faults, I sometimes feel quite intimidated here, everyone is tooo good for little sinner me! :crying:

Thanks all for taking the time to post.I do appreciate how kind and understanding people here have been with me.

Sinner here! However, I really love my faith, and I think that’s what you might be seeing in the posts you are speaking about. Have you checked the Family Life forum? A lot of souls are laid bare there - people in pain, morality questions, NFP vs. ABC, etc. I must say, Catholic Answers has really impacted my life. From Catholic Answers Live, to catholic.com to the forums. I learn something new all the time, and that’s very exciting to me.

If you still have the old rear-view mirror, you should be able to unscrew a screw that attaches it to the support and then slide the support out. You then have to fix the support to the windshield.

There is a special rear-view-mirror adhesive that auto supply shops sell. Mark with a crayon (on the OUTSIDE) of the windshield the spot where the mirror is supposed to go. Then scrape off the remaining adhesive, doing a final cleanup of the area (on the INSIDE of the windshield) with rubbing alcohol. (Make sure that at least one car door or window is open while using the alcohol.) The adhesives may differ a bit, but usually you break an ampoule to release one half of the adhesive, which you smear over the marked part of the windshield. The other half comes in a tube which you cut open and dab a drop or two on the mirror support. Hold the mirror support against the windshield for a minute or two without moving it; then give it another several hours to set. After it’s dry, you can reattach the mirror and tighten down the attachment screw again.

This isn’t completely permanent, but mine have lasted for a couple of years so far. Usually extremely hot weather degrades the adhesive.

This is a little off the original topic of the forum, perhaps? But I couldn’t resist rising to the bait.

Thanks! I’ll try the auto part store. I did basically what you said before but I didn’t buy it from the auto parts store. (Used the rubbing alcohol and everything to make sure the spot was clean.) But with out fail in really hot or really cold weather the dumb thing would fall off. So I’ve been driving without one (and craning my neck alot). I will try the auto parts store maybe what they sell is better. Thanks again.

I am a member of the Sacred Heart Auto League. Each year we get a new Sacred Heart emblem to remind us to drive with care. With all the crazy inconsiderate people on the road, instead of dropping into road rage, I look at the Sacred Heart and offer it up.

One purpose of this site is to help each other become better catholics. We all have room for improvement. That’s why we’re here.
An excellent point Christy Beth…

There’s that standard we are all striving for…but not always quite reaching. But we keep trying. These forums are a way for many believers around the country (and the world), to support, comfort, and advise, each other, in attaining the Catholic “standard” (or goal of Heaven). There’s already enough of the negative in the world to bring us down…these forums provide a “lift”.

May His peace rain on you…

I think I am open when it calls for it. As far as birthcontrol I used Norplant early in my marriage but I wasn’t going to church at the time. Once we learned NFP artificial bc went bye bye. But that doesn’t mean we don’t struggle at times. Pregnancy would be very dangerous for me at this point because of my health . There are times when we’d like to be intimate but we can’t. SOmetimes we push the envelope and umm. accidents happen It’s a regular struggle that’s been going on since we started using NFP.

Rear view mirrors -can’t help ya there I don’t have anything hanging from them actually. In fact one car doesn’t have a rear view mirror. (by the way if anyone knows how toi reattatch a rear view mirror so that it actually stays I’d be happy to know).

No not one of us is perfect. I think often time the answer given is what is the church teaching is. There is a risk when you stray from that the person asking will feel justified by thinking well I’m not the only one and continue in that sin.
And this is a site where people tend to take their faith very seriously. (Once in a while I think a little too seriously-sometimes I feel some are a little scrupulous.)
I believe I an open about my struggles when it is appropriate.
general electric RTV silicone does a very good job of gluing rear view mirrors. it takes a couple of days to really set up. just glue the little metal piece to the windshield., and wait, the longer the better.

it is a rule of this forum that we do not ask for personal information or violate privacy. it is a rule of Christian charity that we always put the most charitable construction and interpretation on anyting someone says here or upon any action or behavior we observe. It is a rule of civil human discourse that we refrain from boring other people with disclosures of a personal and intimate nature in general conversation. it is a rule of our Catholic faith that we confess our sins to a priest, not on internet forums.
